Hello everyone, im new to the necro scene and i wanna do spell research. while i have looked into from different sites ( IE eqtraders/alla) i cant seem to find pure necro research, its always wizzy stuff, can i use the same pratice runes that wizzys use? or is there different runes/words for me? please any info is wanted! Thank you :)

The practice rune quest is available to all int casters, not just wizards. You might want to look into DoDH research as a skill path as well. In the research forum, there's a decent write up on the basics of it, though it is written for those with the skill and interest to make level 65 spells.

So you're interested in spell research eh?

Here's my advice:

Take a gallon of chlorine bleach and a gallon of amonia.
Mix both together in a poorly ventilated room.
If that doesn't do it, drink as much of it as you can.

Seriously, research is the devil.

quick trivials (http://eqtraders.com/recipes/recipe_quicklist.php?rsa=Spell%20Research&menustr=080105900000)

Vial of Pure Water (http://eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=20928&menustr=080105900000) - triv 54

Various parchment solutions (http://www.eqtraders.com/search/reverse_recipe_search.php?item=20929&min=0&sb=trivial&hits=5&menustr=035000000000)

You're gonan spend quite a bit more than 25k to get close to being able to make a GoD spell with a 50% success rate. Just find a high skilled toon to do the combine for yas.

People who love Tradeskilling.. hate Spell Research.

Suck it up.. and pay.

or.. make really, really good friends with a Master Researcher *winks*

If you are going to use DoDh research as a skill-up method, hold onto every piece of crystallized sulfur you come across. I am kicking myself for how much of this I sold to vendors during my past 70 levels only to need it all now.

I hate spell research and agree that it is the devil, but imo, it is a necessary evil.

Felicite gives good advice .. friends with a master researcher to do the combine or suck it up and pay.

Your mental health will thank you.

If you were lucky enough to "pay" for your research skill... not me.

I have been using EQ Traders (http://www.eqtraders.com/recipes/recipe_page.php?article=122&rsa=Spell%20Research&rc=NEC&sb=item&menustr=080105060000).

Take your current spell research, then look at the next set of trivals.

Your research is 44 next highest trivals 54.

Find all the words you can for those combines, ie loot, merchants, vendor trash, Bazaar and just find a quiet bank (Paineel) and combine til you get sick or hit that trival.

Rinse and repeat.

I thought at one time there was a sticky that posted the GM of research for each server somewhere here..

I generally succeed in making spells, so if you're on the Saryrn server, I'd be glad to attempt any combine if you provide the materials. In the case of PoP and GoD spells, I only ask for the parchment, as I have stacks of Sulfer and Saltpeter, and the rest is maybe a few plat to buy from vendors. 243 skill + 5% from Journeyman Trophy + Salvage 3 + Arcane Tongues 3

A list of GM researchers can be found here:

Not sure how up to date it is, and who has retired or not, but it may be somewhere to start.

I friggen hate reserach... Sadly at the rate of skillups I will have all other of my 8 tradeskills at 300 before research, and Im the leading researcher on my server. 287 and counting.

I basically used this for me, pinched for master trasdeskill guide in the EQtrader forums.

Spell Research - Tradeskill Trophy Quest
0 - 20 Guild Trainer.
21 - 35 Quill of the Prophet
36 - 54 Vial of Pure Water- Save all.
55 - 62 Training rune
63 - 95 Journeyman Rune
96 - 102 Oil of Vitrol - Save all.
103 - 112 LoY Swatches (Req. skill: 101)
113 - 144 Parchment Solution
145 - 174 Fine Parchment solution
175 - 203 Vellum Parchment solution
204 - 216 Fine Vellum Parchment solution
217 - 243 Runic Parchment Solution
244 - 262 Any spell thats 262 trivial
263 - 292 Any spell thats 292 trivial
293 - 300 Any spell thats 292+ trivial

Although I skipped the training and journeyman runes by buying sulfur and saltpeter on my Bazaar Buyer. After 102 the cost starts to get steep.

Eqtraders (http://mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/showthread.php?t=17759) has a list of spreadsheets/programs to help keep everything sane. You might find one of those helpfull.

Vendor diving all over norrath should net you enough words to keep you busy till 130ish, and one of those spreadsheets can help you select what words you have to make spells that will hopefully get you skillups. ;)

I want to reinforce what Xislaben said here, since it is very very true. Those spells cost 25k because research is a very expensive skill to raise, not just because they are a 'novelty item'. If you are just raising research because you don't want to pay that much, you are making a big mistake, with the exception of if you plan to continue researching spells to sell as well.

Your cheapest option is to farm the parchment and ask a researcher to make the spell for you. Your next cheapest option is to shell out 25k for the spell. Your most expensive option is to raise research to make the spell yourself.

An additional path for the 243-262 level was added with TSS and that is "Researcher Ceramic Clay".

With the TBS expansion there was ONE (that I know of) new research recipe.

It's pretty easy if you have master jewelcraft or tinkering (or an alt or friend that does) and Sunshard Ore since the Silver Conduit Small Core is a subcombine of 316 too.

Glowing Energeiac Rod
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM ATTUNEABLE INFUSIBLE
Slot: PRIMARY
Purity: 40
STR: +5 DEX: +5 STA: +5 CHA: +5 WIS: +5 INT: +5
AGI: +5 HP: +80 MANA: +80 Endurance: +80
SV FIRE: +4 SV DISEASE: +4 SV COLD: +4 SV MAGIC: +4
SV POISON: +4
Recommended level of 60
Required level of 55

http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=27491

I've been lazy with research so I haven't bothered with it yet. Don't know if the Small Cores have been selling in the bazaar or for how much. I do have quite a stack of Sunshard Ore to give to a GM jeweler friend... we'll see...
