I finally added Wake the Dead to my AA's (only have about 20 of them so far) and I can't get the damned thing to work! Whenever I try to use it, I get the message "You ability has failed. The timer has been reset." WTF??? I contacted Sony via /petition 4 times (still awaiting response on the 4th since the 9th when a GM came on at like 1am and said "you were in trader mode in the bazaar, but I would like to talk to you concerning this matter" only to never show up again. Basically, the first time they told me to make sure I was using the default UI because custom UIs can cause interference (so they said, anyway), delete all my .config files and do a complete file check on start up to make sure everything was good. **Done** Still no workie.
Second petition led to me doing the same, but also wanted me to stand right on top of the corpse to make sure I wasn't too far away and to make sure that I had at least 5 minutes left on the decay timer so that it was "fresh enough". They also told me to make sure that my system clock and BIOS clock were sync'd. **Done** and still no dice.
Next, I called Sony Tech Support, waited on hold for about 20 minutes and then talked to Cory. He had me download a utility from www.WorldTimeServer.com to FORCE my system clock to be perfectly in line with the stars and moon.... Still no good.
Third petition resulted in the GM suggesting that I remove and reinstall Everquest. Did it. Still didn't work. I then installed EQ on my kids computer (slower, but still good enough) and it didn't work. Finally I went over to a friends house and used his computer cuz it is brand new from Alienware and has EVERYTHING I ever dreamed of in it. No WtD!
Now, I'm awaiting consult of my fourth petition and very disappointed. Has anyone else ever experienced this or heard anything like it?
Thanks in advance!

You have corpses present when you try to use the ability...correct?

Present, fresh and targeted.

Easy to miss, and I did it when I first got WtD ....
You do not target a corpse and try to wake the dead.
Target a live mob and have a corpse nearby. Cast wake the dead. The corpse should then "come alive" and attack the mob you had targeted.
When I first got this AA, I fought with it for almost a week targeting corpses and gettting the "your ability has failed" message.

If you are targeting the corpse you want to wake, then that is your problem. The way WTD and AOTD both work is that you target the mob you want to sic all your risen pets on.... and then you click the aa hotbutton. Your spellcasting bar will come up and once it is cast, it will check your immediate area for useable corpses. WTD will raise the one closest to you and it will immediately attack your target (provided it is an attackable mob). AOTD will raise the appropriate number of mobs ie. if you have rank 1 and there are three corpses next to you or in range, it will raise three, if you have rank 2 or 3, it will raise four or five, respectively. If you don't have a valid target, the ability will fail and the timer will reset.
As a side note, the WTD and AOTD pets are like chanter pets in that you can't direct which target they will go to except the initial one when you use your ability. The only way to get them to attack another mob (provided they are still spawned when the current target dies) is to have another mob attack you via spells or melee.
most mobs move slowly enough when snared that you should be able to get off a cast of WTD before they reach you, just like a regular spell. Be sure to have it hotkeyed.
recap: Target mob. Have at least one corpse nearby you (not near the mob you have targeted) Make sure you are in range (you'll get a message if the target it out of range). Hit hotkey for WTD or AOTD. Spell timer will go off and when it is finished, the corpse(s) near you will pop up and attack your target.
note: afaik, all WTD mobs will hit for the same amount, so don't bother trying to kill more powerful mobs so they'll hit harder. WTD and AOTD pets will flurry and crit if you have the appropriate pet aa's.
hope this info helps!

No kidding! I explained, in EXCRUCIATING DETAIL, what I was doing (targeting the dead mob) and they couldn't offer any assistance. Man, that makes more sense now.
Thanks a BUNCH for the help. Now, if I could only find a reason to ditch work for the rest of the day and head home to try it out, LOL.

At least he got them to read his petition. I swear half the time I send petitions I get a pre-defined response based entirely upon the 2 scroll down choices they make you pick so you get to the right person for help. I love it when they tell me to do something i've already done 3 times followed by a quick "that should solve your problem".

And a happy "Please feel free to contact Sony Customer support at 1-800-eat-crap (and please stay on the line for 20-45 minutes waiting for your turn to come up) if you are unable to correct your problem using our suggestions."
Yeah, the first two /petitions were pretty much cann'd phrases with minor adjustments to cater to my Necro needs....

Ah, we three Quellious brothers ;P
I petitioned about WTD when i first got it cause of the corpse targeting issue. hehe
I had to ask on the necrotalk channel to get it to work properly, and Lilnecro was nice enough to say "Stop targetting the corpses to get it to work, target the mob you want them to attack"
Solved all my problems. When in doubt, ask the chat :)

Does that mean that your Necro is un-retired?

He is currently only used for plvling and farming, but i'd pull him out for more if there was a decent group that needed him. I got other 70+ tho so can handle a variety of roles.
