That was about the time the Obsidian Shard was selling for 400 pp, and EC was the place to go.

Do you remember when?

Travel was actually an effort? And dangerous for Evil races...

Practicing your skills while waiting for the boat.

Paying for a teleport, forgetting to bind, and having to get another one when you get whacked.

Actually having to log since you (as a melee) couldn't find someone to bind you after hard hours travel.

The run from Freeport to Qeynos was actually a challenge (and most people knew the way).

Jumping ship as an Ogre/Troll/DE if you took the boat to Faydar and running through BB terrified you'd get killed before you got a bind.

The run through Qeynos hills, terrified that Holly or the other ranger would whack you because some stupid bear or wolf aggro'd you.

The many ways through the Karanas.

Seeing your first Giant.

Seeing your first Spectre.

Seeing your first skeleton.

Hitting 'A' and wondering why your guildmaster slaughtered you.

While harder, those days were simpler. (**disclaimer: No, I don't think things should go back to the way they were)

/sigh

Ah yes, I remember those days fairly well. I do kind of miss them from time to time. Especially the long ass boat rides.. (Though most of my mains have maxed tradeskills)

Ah... Wish i were that EQ went back to pre-expansion.

I think not.

Praying to get to level 35 asap so you could actually sit and med without staring at your spellbook with absolute no clue of what was going on around you!!

Yelling and actually trying to buy something in EC.

Asking for a druid port and forgetting to invis yourself before they ported you and ending up dead as soon as you landed in the druid circle!

Good ol' days...

Sal

Forgot the port-invis thing.

Dont have PoP or Luc yet. Since I always ask for ports (And pay around 50p per) I usually remember to Invis myself.

The other week though, was not pretty. Forgot to invis before porting to NK and being a Nec, ended up getting splattered by treants and the drus. Dumb me. Lol.

The first times you came into view of ToFS, the Ice Bridge between IC and EW, & when you were in FoB & saw Kurn's Tower.

Here is one for the REALLY old necros. Remember actually being able to scribe CHARM in your spellbook? I have it in mine.

PS: I started my Necro March 1999. This is the same charm used by Enchanters.

A full set of bronze was uber.

Camping jboots in najena.
-getting stuck in a jail cell in said dungeon.
-Flowing Black Robe off of najena was the best robe known to drop.

Kithicor was a noob zone day or night.

Queen Tearisthex spawned in Neriak Commons. ( aka the queen of the dead )
-could do quests from said queen.

Befallen trains made trains in karnors seem small.

Unrest basement was a grouping area, no one dreamed of soloing

Cazic-Thule was where everyone met to go hunt stuff in their low 20's

just a few :)

... Not knowin what "KEI" is...

DL was "THE" place to level from 35 to 45.. KC after that.. (150 plus people in the zone not uncommon)

You made friends with Druids and Wizzies.. for said ports

Worrying if your invis dropped while in Ogre territory (for the 20 pet spell that could only be bought there)

Camping in South Karana.. and "that dam Sentry"

Wondering why anyone would spend 5pp on crush bone belt?

First time i saw someone with lev...... WOOOOW

First time I saw a druid in wolf form

first time I had wolf form =) Ubah

Camping unrest when people actually went there, and the nice trains every 5 min.

Crafted was the best armor a warrior could get.

Vox and naggy were fought over by the uber guilds, same with hate and fear.

yea FD and let your pet kill everything around haha back in the day oh and ya know that when they changed charm so we couldnt scribe it they just made it so we needed to be 61 but they dropped us off the spell when pop came out yea lol boats... the boat from BB to FP through OOT yea i got good at swimming cause if ya were on the bottem against the side boom you were swimming i miss having millions of people yelling in EC and boats and all the "old" exp places but i gotta admit... PoK makes life easier than running for an hour or so and dieing when your almost there lol :)

Remember when you had to wait HOURS to get into an experiance group in Highhold? Or Highpass? And sneaking around the corner to con the captain or the volunteer to see if you had enough faction to do the turn ins of gnoll scalps?

I miss that...faction back when it mattered.

Camping unrest when people actually went there, and the nice trains every 5 min.

People certainly still go to Unrest on BB: it's not as popular as it was two years ago, but it's still a fast XP zone from about 15 to 30 and I've never found groups hard to get into there. Was a great place to level my Dr00d, since Wolf Form makes the mobs indifferent to you and Harmony often allows single pulls... so soloing was quite effective even if I wasn't in a group.

I miss that...faction back when it mattered.

Yeah, much as faction grinding was often tedious, knowing that you could only go to a few places in the world without being attacked certainly made life more interesting. I still think that the peak of EQ was the Luclin era, before PoP really trivialised so much content... possibly even before that, though I don't remember anything about Luclin that really trivialised the game the same way that level 65 and the PoK books has.

I remember when someone in your oasis group was allways on "spectre watch" and the words "spectre/sand giants/cazel to docks" was extremely common.

When Banded used to sell for 1pp per ac, and there actually was a good market for it.
Being excited at reaching a level were you felt semi confident to travel out of your starting zone.

When you got lost trying to find your way out of Neriak.

When you got lost in Nektulos.

The "newbie log."

When you first stepped out of nektulos, into the light of EC.

The first time you fought Nagafen, and you were terrified. He feared you, and you ran like a little girl.

Back when you could fear someone you dueled and watch them run.

The first time you ever killed a giant in WC - that incredible feeling of raw power.

When ya wanted to trade stuff between characters. You either asked a friend to hold your stuff or you found a remote spot camped both charaters there dropped from one quick logged to the other. Always praying someone did'nt wander by and say hey loot on the ground Or a NPC scooping it up.

Man i Had to do that ALLLL the time

I for one miss all of those things. I especially miss the boat trips.

Fishing was fun it was a shame that the bar did not open.

I did hear rumour that there is a broken quest that gives you a lantern that when you click on it (when used on the docks of EFP) it summons a boat that goes from EFP to FV direct. I think this was just whispers in the wind though.

I think that that would be one of the coolest items in EQ.

I go to OOT just to have a boat trip.

Serenity.

In East Commons, up on top of the cliffs is where I had a relatively safe spot. I remember falling once after a trade there. Hehe.

I also remember doing this once as a newbie in Qeynos and right before logging hearing an NPC say. "Hmm, this is nice". I remember getting back on and thinking I would KILL everyone around in the hopes of finding my stuff...sheesh, that was embarassing.

The Maiden's Voyage was amazing to me, I remember that day..

Since I was one of maybe 8 iksar necros on my server since it was SO DAMN HARD TO GET ANYWHERE I learned how to get all over the world without dying. I swear I was better than a ranger at getting you somewhere. :D .. I remember having to walk back to Cabilis anytime I needed food and drink so I always stocked up a whole bag full. Also when Velious came out I was always asking people whether or not those little dorfs would kill me on sight. I hardly ever went to Luclin when it came out too cuz my comp was so bad and the game engine hadn't been tweeked..

Ah those days when it was so hard for me to get a group cuz everyone would always just tell me "You're a necro, you don't need a group, go solo" and regardless of whether or not I could (I could) I still wanted to group with people.. I'm not a damn hermit, I'm a necro.. and a pretty nice one at that..

So yeah, back in the day was nice and fun, but these days things are just more convenient..

I remember when Kunark came out, and my first boat trip to the overthere, and getting whacked by a rhino...and having to make the same trip becuase I forgot to bind there. Then binding there, and having the same trouble in reverse when I got to Oasis and was killed by a sand giant...I think I was level 14.

I remember when I first started being a DE cleric, and swiming against the glass to learn how to swim.

I remember my first trip to EC and seeing wow it isn't always dark around here.

I remember my first trip to OT as a DE cleric, going to Oasis Docks which seemed like a VERY VERY long walk/run for me, and thinking it would be much easier when I had my gnome skin armor!!!!!!

When I was like given 100plat for a 10% rez in EC and think woohoo I'm not broke anymore.

I remember when necros would come to the noobie log and give everyone DMF and me going WTF I don't want to float, I can do crap like this, and who wants to look dead!!!!!!!!!

My first day of EQ I fell off the bridge in nek. commons and calling a friend on the phone COME FIND ME I'm in the water and cant get out!!

my first day as a wood elf...oops you can fall out of the trees!!!!!!!! first time running in the trees with selos.....well may be that is a little fast.....may be I should slow down.........AAAHHHHRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH/.....splat.....as I fall off again.

I remember doing skills, fishing, playing songs while on the boat to take up time.

Going to CB the first time, and falling into the water (because of my first day I learned about the whole breath thing), but the latters were a pain in the BUTT!!!!

Remember playing gems to pass the time while staring at your spellbook during med time.

First time seeing a Spec in Oasis and running for your life to no avail!

The Lockjaw Hide Tunic was cool to have.

Getting that initial Adrenaline rush whenever the autoattack music would come on.

The first time a MoB CH'd itself on me I almost cried.

First dragon I saw was Gore in DL and I had to stop and take screenshots.

First Time getting Trak Touched is always fun.

Same with getting Death Touched.
GuildLeader shouts "Who wants to pull Dread?"
silence...
Smartass Shaman shouts "Let the Ranger do it!"
You shout "Sure, I'll do it, I don't see what the big deal is."
Dread shouts "Chuger!" Loading please wait!!!

Ah the good old days.

Well, I played a bit when Kunark first was released, but have only recently started into it again. But I remember how "cool" it was to hear zone wide that you have beaten Soandso in a duel to the death. Or when someone zoned without finishing the fight. (Don't remember what it sayed, but was something like Soandso chickened out)

Seeing the Maiden's Voyage was a real breath taking event for the first time since most boats you have seen had all looked pretty much the same.

Then there was the time when you didn't start with a complete stack of Food and Water, but only had about 5.

Re-making the trip from qeynos to freeport because you forgot to con that guard before trying to get into the city.

Getting drunk for the first time in Kelethin (I know, still happens today)

Hunting in Butcherblock while waiting for someone to yell "Boat to Docks"

Waiting for a while to get into an Orc group in West Commonlands

Waiting for a while to get into a Derv group in NRo
