I just started my necro but have never really used fear. (I still tank for my pet most of the time with a ds) I was thinking about doing Cougar's in IC but all the strats I have seen use fear. Is it only pre-50 fear works or has it gone altogether? Tried looking it up on casters realm and alakazam but i couldn't find anything about it.

Fear works fine on any mob that is lvl 55 or lower. Once upon a time feared mobs would path in strange ways, sometimes back and forth in very safe and predictible patterns; but that was changed several months ago and now they tend to take more straight paths in one direction, sometimes toward the center of the zone where it can be quite dangerous (because of social-aggro). Anyway, though this new pathing may be more dangerous in some instances, in others it is better; so I wouldn't say that fear kiting is altogether broken.

However, at higher lvls it will become increasingly obvious that fear-kiting is an antiquated method, as it will be next to impossible to find mobs it will land on that give decent xp. This is likely what they meant when whoever said that "fear doesn't work" and although I miss fear kiting sometimes, there are certainly many other ways in which to kill mobs effectively; so I don't get too bent out of shape over it.

On the whole agro kiting will take over after a certain point; however, if you want to fear kite all the way in 65, you can still do it. Just go to Skyfire and look for Old Wurms, and elder wyverns. etc.. most of them will be by the ragefire camp. I use agro kiting more these days however.

Just a note to you guys fear kiting.. go get you a staff of the dreaded gaze.. It will simplify your fear kiting life immensly.
