View Full Version : Crucial 63-65 spells?

In another post, Doomfir said that the 63 pet was probably not a crucial spell for those of us on limited budgets.
This was an interesting perspective to me because I would have thought that since the 63 pet (at least from the info I've read) is a rogue pet that the added DPS on aggro kiting would make that a must have spell...
I'd be interested in hearing perspectives from other level 65s on what 63-65 spells are "must haves" and what spells we can more easily do without until budget permits?

Must have's in my opinion:
Touch of Death
Seduction of Saryn
Force Shield
Embracing Darkness
Very helpful to have:
Child of Bert (if focused) for grouping/tanking
Saryn's companion for aggro kiting
Death's Silence
Blood of Thule (even that I lived without for a long time)
And the rest when you get the cash. At least that's how my progression has gone so far. Working on filling out the spell book, still have a couple to go.

Well, alot of this can't really be narrowed down by anyone but yourself. If you are really into camping things and having your pet tank, Touch of death and child of bertoxxulous would both be very important. If you Kite and don't have to heal your pet, Saryrn's companion would be more important then Child of Bertoxxulous and so-on. A rough classificatoin:
Must Have's reguardless of playstyle from 63-65:
Seduction of saryrn
Embracing Darkness
At a slightly lower priority:
forceshield
maelin
Blood of thule or Horror
Good to have's:
Saryrn's Companion
Death's silence
Touch of Death
horror/bot(whichever you haven't picked up yet)
Child of bertoxxulous.
Ideally you'd have them all, but I do realise that takes quite a bit of time, effort and luck.
Word of Terris isn't useless but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

I agree with Jeb for the most part.
I picked up deaths silence for 5-6k in bazaar. good to have in ldon groups. and for some soloing. i find it helpful for soloing veksar for that occasional add.
Death touch has come in very handy for pet tanking in certain zones. Again i found it in bazaar for 5-6k.
BoT is probably CoB are the two that will be difficult and expensive to obtain. I agree that Horror is a good substitute for BoT. Horror as you probably know can be obtain thru adventuring in Everfrost. it cost 650 Adventure Points. Well worth the effort in my opinion.
I agree with Doom, but it may be because of play style. I don't do alot of kiting anymore. A lot of the places I hunt, both for groups and solo are in dungeons and tight places where kiting is not an option. For head on confrontations, I want the pet with higher hp. I think that if you spend a good portion of your time with pet taunt turned off, agro kiting, while your pet is following along beating from behind, the 63 pet may be a good choice. If you are going to have to hold your ground, I don't like the rogue pet. One last comment about the pet to use in a group situation. If you have good crowd control, the rogue is fine, but if you don't, more often than not, your pet may have to tank an add solo while the rest of the group handles the targeted pull. The rogue would not be my choice here either.

Reason I said saryn's companion is not a must have is that you can put a warrior any place a rogue is used, but you cant put a rogue any place a warrior is used. While a warrior pet can agro kite just fine (albeit reduced dmg output) a rogue pet can't tank. If you agro kite you can use CoB or LoZ in place of SC and do fine. I therefore put it in the desireable spell class and not the must have.
Sutuationally other must haves are farming in dungeons.
Touch of Death - Can't keep pet up in some areas without this. You cannot camp Nurga, or Droga without it solo.
Death's silence - Breaking undead camps, mainly Veksar.

My list of must haves.
Dungeons: ( like Veksar)
Touch of Death
Child of Bertoxxulous
Horror
Outside: ( like Halls of Honnor )
Saryrn's Companion
Blood of Thule
Embracing Darkness
Overall: ( must haves just because they are useful, even if some are situational )
Death's Silence
Embracing Darkness
Force Shield
Seduction of Saryrn
Touch of Death
Blood of Thule
Horror
For farming: ( yea this is for those who want to farm veksar )
Saryrn's Companion / Child of Bertoxxoulous
Forceshield
Death's Silence
Touch of Death
( these four are pretty much a must for veksar, the pet depends on play style. )
My personal top 3: ( 63+ )
Forceshield
Horror
Seduction of Saryrn
-Forceshield = added mana regen + 750 dmg reduction is very hard to beat and its cheap to cast. It is always memed for me.
-Horror = Fastes damage spell aside from a nuke we get (nongod) period. Only 650 points too buy, at 63 you will get 47 points per ldon or about. Doesnt take long to get this provided you get groups for it.
-Seduction of Saryrn = Was the best mana regen we get, it is the one most people will have for a very long time. It is also one of the largest mana regen jumps we get. Arch lich at 35 mana regen, SoS at 50 mana regen.. big difference between them and worth every bit of the wait and price. Bar none.
