I havent played in awhile but Im back to raise another Necro. Of course I deleted all my old notes so I am attempting to familiarize myself with everything again. I gave up the research aspect before and now I see why, there is no information anywhere that I can find except at Casters Realm (noted below). But it is extremely outdated and as far as I can remember that site has more mis-information than anything.

Is it possible to make a sticky here for Researchable spells? And could I please get some better information to update what I have so far? I am missing some trivial levels and possibly any new ones after level 60. Plus, it seems half of the items in the list are incorrect, do not drop or do not combine.

I did find quite a list of researchable stuff at Allahkazam but I dont believe most of it is for the type Im needing. I will see what I can find to update the list below so it can be shared with everyone.

Thanks in advance!

<<< Research Quest for Practice Runes >>>

This quest originates in the Southern Desert of Ro. The NPC to speak to for this quest is named Smith Tv'ysa, she is a Dark Elf NPC at the merchant camp located at +100, +500. The aim of the quest is to acquire these practice runes. To complete the quest there are three steps. Firstly you need to bring a Greater Lightstone to her. These can be obtained from killing wisps, or purchased off other players who have them. In reward she will give you the Concordance of Research. This is the box which is used to make the Practice Runes. The second step, which is optional, is to bring normal lightstones to her. In return you will randomly receive one of two recipe books. These are handy for in game reference, but the complete recipes are listed below. The third step is to acquire the ingredients. Each Practice Rune requires five ingredients to make it. Three of these runes are the items listed in the recipe book. The other two required are a Quill and Parchment. You receive the Quill back from the attempts, but the parchment is consumed. Parchment is not stackable. Once you have those ingredients place them in the Concordance and combine them. They will be made into the appropriate rune. Listed below are the Practice Runes. Clicking on the appropriate rune will tell you detailed information on what you need to make it.

SPELL RESEARCH DETAILS

Practive Azia (21)-Lapis Lazuli, Bat Wing, Bone Chips
Practice Beza (21)-Turqouise, Fire Beetle Eye, Rusty Slash Weapon

Apprentice Azia (41)-Hematite, Bixie Wings, Froglok Eye
Apprentice Beza (41)-Cats Eye Agate. Large Snake Rattle, Rusty Piercing/Blunt Weapon

Training Azia (62)-Bloodstone, Wasp Wing, Zombie Skin
Training Beza (62)-Onyx, Spiderling Silk, Raw Hide Armor

Journeyman Azia (95)-Jasper, Pixie Wing, Bat Fur
Journeyman Beza (95)-Star Rose Quartz, Burnedout Lightstone, Raw Hide Armor

Study Azia (?)-Amber, Giant Bat Wing, Giant Scarab Eye
Study Beza (?)-Amber, Giant Snake Fang, Ring Mail

Expert Azia (?)-Jade, Faerie Wing, Fire Drake Scales
Expert Beza (?)-Jade, Giant Snake Rattle, Raing Mail

Master Azia (?)-Pearl, Griffin Feather, Undead Froglok Tongue
Master Beza (?)-Pearl, Giant Fire Beetle Eye, Fine Steel Slash Weapon

Magi Azia (?)-Topaz, Shark Skin, Brownie Parts
Magi Beza (?)-Topaz, Giant Toes, Fine Steel Piercing/Blunt Weapon

As you make pairs of runes you can use them to increase your research skill. To make your attempt place the Azia and Beza Runes in your appropriate research book. You should only have the two runes in your research book when you hit combine. As you continue to use your Practice Runes you will gain skill. A successful combining will yield one solid rune which can then be sold to recover some of the costs in training. As one set of runes becomes trivial you can move on to the next appropriate set of Practice Runes. Remember, use the Concordance of Research to make the runes out of the ingredients, the quill and the parchment. Do combine the practice runes in it. Rather, use the Lexicon, Tomb of Endless Enchantments, Book of Dark Bindings, or Elemental Grimoire, to combine your two runes.

Well I dont have too much info to add as I have just started also, but yeah, useful info that is to date is hard to come by. There is a way I am told that if you have The Serpents Spine expansion you can go from 0 to 40 (not exactly sure on the end cap, 40 , 41 ??). Seek out the NPC quest giver for the tradeskill you are trying to accomplish and they will give you a task to raise that tradeskill.

Also EQ Traders (http://www.eqtraders.com) has locations for the necessary materials. Granted its not 100% correct, but its pretty accurate , esp concerning the latest expansions.

While I'm certainly not going to tell you not to work on them, I do think that at this point in the game, practice runes are a waste of time, or frankly a waste of time at any point in the game...

As mentioned, eqtraders is the place to be, and there's a nice skillup guide there too.

Imo, don't bother with the runes. Complete waste of time. What I did was dump the 20 or so training points into it from a Guild Master, then make:

Vial of Pure Water until 54 (all vendor bought)

Aqua Regia, Aqua Fortis, Vial of Muraic Acid, and Oil of Vitrol until 102

and then Parchment solutions from that point on:

113 - 144 Parchment Solution
145 - 174 Fine Parchment solution
175 - 203 Vellum Parchment solution
204 - 216 Fine Vellum Parchment solution
217 - 243 Runic Parchment Solution

Vellum Solution, Runic Vellum Solution, Fine Vellum Solution and Fine Runic Vellum Solution also all triv at 243. Paper is also a new component in TSS, so it might be worth your while to look into making those solutions as well once you get up into higher trivials, depending on what's available to you.

Save EVERYTHING you make, as you'll need them later on. Spell Research is a little easier now that the acids are available on vendors, but just to give you an idea it cost me about 250-300k to get from 100 to 250, and that's only because I had a ton of parchments handed to me from guildmates and I only had to buy the acids to make more solutions.

Also, if you're looking for a list of researchable spells, I like this one (http://www.eqtraders.com/recipes/recipe_page.php?article=122&rsa=Spell%20Research&rc=NEC&sb=item&menustr=080105060000). You can get a good idea of what you can make depending on how far along you are.

*Also, the Hides & Spell Scrolls (http://www.necrotalk.com/index.php?showtopic=7088) might be a good alternative for skill-ups, but they're relatively new and I don't know too much about them. Might be worth looking into though, as I've noticed the hides dropping a lot while I've been leveling my 30-something Druid. I'm not sure where you are right now, but that might be more easily accessable to you than farming gems and Saltpeter for the Acids, although the price of Saltpeter has gone down a ton in the bazaar ever since they put the Acids on vendors! (figures).

Hope that helps some!

TSS has a Research tradeskill quest set that will take you from 0 to 54. I recommend using it to smooth out your first steps into research.

The ingredients listed for Training Azia (62) runes can be found in large supply in and around Crescent Reach (Blightfire, in some cases, buy the gems in PoK). That will get you to 62 with a minimum of fuss as a new character, or with some hardcore gray-mob-vaping.

Journeyman beza can be gotten in Blightfire. Azia you'll probably have to make a trek out to GFay/Lfay for pixie wings. Bat fur won't be fun. Runes above that might be doable, but I think the needed time investment may be prohibitive. YMMV, of course.

Bixie wings drop in Stone Hive and off mobs near ZI to Stone Hive. I am not sure if these are the same wings you need for the research, but, I do remember them dropping a few.
