What is the Most Popular Race for a Necro?

Just WHO IS the most preferred race of a necromancer? Perhaps this poll will answer the question.
Also a few notes:
1. This is not to offend any one if their race isn't picked.
2. The outcome of these polls shouldn't justify your choice of race, you should just decide on which race suits you best.
3. Finally, please (if you wish to) write a brief description on why.

Worshiping Cazic-Thule is the true embodyment of a necro. Fear is the great equalizer. A necro's most used spell in the book should be fear and it is only fitting that iksar, who worship the god of fear, be the best necromancers. (Look at that, a reason to play an Ikky that's not regen!)

As for gods, I would think Bertox be the prototypical necro god. Death, disease and decay are 3 good features to any necromancer.

When i first became a necro, i made a gnome because it was the least common race even less than a human on my server... but now i see gnomes everwere and its pissing me off, i picked necro was well because it was the under used class, and well i later found out the best one ;) ..... Anyway wondering why i should play this necro anymore, just another run up the mill necro gnome.. with 4k hp unbuffed ;)

Obviously DEF is the most popular choice for Necro. Who wouldn't wanna be worshipped in their own town. No ostricization for fellow race members who are too ignorant to see the way of the Death Magi. Not to mention the abundant componants to be found in your noob startin area. Plus, you have Ghouls gaurding your stronghold. Ghouls Man!!!

I perfer a Gnome to a DE, the main reason, I don't have to tip-toe around cities because I'm KOS to the guards, the first Necro I made was a DE, I spent many lvls in CB and I'm still KOS to the guards in Kelethin, my Gnome Necro wasn't KOS to the guards at 1st lvl and I can come and go in Kaladim when ever I want to, try that with a DE, I'd also like to see a DE walk into Freeport or Qeynos, not going to happen, at least not that I've seen. Just my 2 cp worth.

Umm, try again Garb. I have no problems in Freeport at all and I have maybe killed a whopping 10 orcs in Nek Forest. Not to mention why would you want to take your DE necro to Crushbone and go to Kelethin or Kaladim? Who cares. You have your own newbie zones. DE's can use Nek Forest, EC, WC, Befallen, Nro and Oasis.

I like the Erudites the best. The high starting int lets you focus more on hp/sta, and Paineel is definitely the coolest town I've ever been in. Not to mention, all the ladies like a man with a big--forehead.

Ever seen an Erudite with a scythe, followed by a creepy skeleton minion? Scareh!

you know I tried several races/class combo for casters, and hated them all, untill I got to an necro ikky, they are the best! I like others, but by far enjoy my ikky the most. The regen is great and extra AC at lower lvls, but even reaching the higher lvls I still see the regen is very helpful. I didn't have to spend alot of time learning how to swim, had some great starting areas, FOB, and Kurns, it was great lvling in those zones. So Ikky is my choice, and the only caster I really like to play.

I have used lots of different race /class combos in my day, and right now i like my dark elf necro. i just like the dark elf look. i kind of enjoy being kos in places. makes it feel all old-worldy to me.

i dont know about you guys but i like the old world feel of EQ. i played from when kunark came out to when luclin came out, and gave up for a while. came back right before ldon. basically, everybody is a lot better, and the game is just too .. easy. everyone is dissatisfied unless they are in the best zone for their level hunting the best things for their level. in the old world, it was more of you went where you could reasonably get your char too, and pay rediculous amounts for ports. you had to farm your own good equipment, and basically everybody was taken down a notch. people used equip that wasnt that good, because it was the best they could find at that level. so far im playing my necro as if some of the new world stuff didnt exist. im doing a lot of soloing, im trying to RP as much as i can, and most of all, im trying to rekindle that old world, we're all in this together, and its us against norrath type feeling. makes it a lot more companionable. back when newbies didnt demand buffs, and you could shout something in the zone and get a friendly response. and when you asked somebody to not steal your camp, and you would split it with them instead of getting in a hissy fit. ahh those were the days. whats happened to you norrath? i shall rekindle the elder days!!

in regard to gnomes, i have a gnome warrior, i didnt need a gnome necro too

I picked gnome because I wanted a cute (not sexy) character. My cleric is a dark elf so I wanted to try something different. =)

My new Necro on Tallon Zek is Inky though. I made her because ... well, why be a necro if you can't be on the dark team =P

So, if u care to read, here are my opinions:

The Human:
The human, is an O.K. class in my opinion. I mean, they start out with very great faction for a necro., but, they are an "all-around" class, meaning they don't specialize in anything. They dont really have huge strengths, neither do they really have enormous weaknesses. (Too bad they can't see in the dark though :P )

The Erudite:
Actually, this is my favorite race, to me, they are the "ideal" caster class becuase they have such a gargantus quantity of mana, and they have fair, but not great faction. Also, for necros., in my opinion they have one of the best newb zones. Also, since supposedly, social situations is their forte, they have pretty decent charistma for a necro. Though with large strengths, come consequental weaknesses. The erudite is one of the weakest casters, they have such a meager defense, it is near impossible not to survive a close encounter. They also don't excel in other areas of the abilities, such as stamina and agility, and especially strength. Still, I think the advantages outweigh the positives on erudites (even if they cant see in the dark).

The Gnome:
For me, the Gnome just was my second choice I never really got into a Gnome necro. at first, but later on I notice that his pros shine through. Still, gnomes are pretty good casters, for they have quite a large mana pool (just 10 starting points below a erudite), good agility, and good dexterity, they can even see in the dark :). Gnomes are a big weapon in a small package, I have to admit at first I didn't think the gnome was that great but, when I played one, I saw he had decent defense for a caster, and was actaully, rather fast. One big thing about the gnomes (at least before the Planes of Power expansion came out) was that Gnomes had faction almost equal to a Human. Though, the Gnomes' downfalls are rather harsh, their attack is as bad as an Erudites, and they don't have great charistma. ( Also, I always had a "thing" with lawn gnomes ). Still, the Gnome is an excellent choice.

The Iksar:
*Sorry I mispelled "Iksar" with "Iskar" on the poll*
The Iksar to me, is kind of an odd choice for a caster. The Iksar is like a very minor tank, with the highest attack of all the races. Iskars also have dexterity and agility that surpass the gnome's. Iksars even have an advanced AC bonus, giving them a large edge in close up encounters. Iksars even have the ability to regenerate more health per "tick" and can also see in the dark. Though with these great strengts, come quite dire consequences. The Ikssar has horrible Intelligence, which means he has very meager mana. The Ikssar are also KoS everywhere except their hometown. Iksars also have terrible charistma, and can get ripped off on prices. Sstill, the Iksar iss the choice for many since it has its natural AC ability and has minor tanking abilities ( though obviously, you shouldn't be the tank if a melee class is there!).

The Dark Elf:
Ah, the Dark Elf, what is there to say? It possibly has the best "story race\class combination". (I mean, who wouldn't want to be a drow?) DEs have the second best Intelligence next to the Erudite. Their agility and dexterity are pretty good too, a little more than average. The DEs can even see in the dark, and are loved and hailed in their hometown by nearly everyone. Still, being a drow isn't perfect, even though you're loved in your hometown, you're hated pretty much everywhere else. You're strength is pretty poor as well (poor is average for a necro., though.) Also, you're start out abilities kind of waste in the wisdom catergory, you don't ever need it and it is quite high in points. Drows are a very great choice for any type of necromancer.

Very good point, I do think there are to many Dark Elfs too. ( That's why I like the Erudite. :), though i never knew about the Paineel lore. )

Iksars rock for necromancers, starting stats aren't really something you NEED to take into consideration anymore, afterall, the "uber loot" isn't exactly golden efreeti boots, SMR, and ornate rune shield anymore. Faction.... Necros, in my mind, SHOULD be kos everywhere except in their guild and a few darker places of their hometowns. Something about fearing, making things heart stop, blood boil while having a dead warrior rise to kill stuff for him, damn well better turn the people in the city around them off. Walk into the tailor shop and pick out a pair of boots, "give me those or I'll cast a spell and burn your skin off, then use your corpse to kill your wife, who's in the back room"(ignite bones/wake the dead) should make people apprehensive.

I like the erudite - the high int is a nice little bonus early on. The females are actually quite pretty since they can have headbands and whispy tendrils of hair to cover up their high foreheads. Paineel is an awesome home city and does have a neat little story behind it.

Of all classes to be worrying about sight, it's not a necro - so many of our buffs have a sight component, that when I am playing my gnome alt I feel like the world is very dim compared to my eru necro. Iksar would probably have been my next choice after erudite, but it couldn't quite make the cut.

DE was shot down as a suggestion because there are just so many of them, and they all look alike - not only are there a million of them, they all chose the same hair model it seems (no offense guys).

But mostly, I think I really just wanted to play a tall race and get to look down on everyone :lol:

well as far as I can see lots of DE's on Brell that and gnomes galore, I chose DE cause of the dark class, and race, just made sense after all if you research the DE heritage they are left alone as children to fend for themselves, parents do not raise them, DE are raised by Drow in a kind of private school of sorts, and very dark mastery of spell line, and fear is a way of life till level 55 after that its going to be pretty much root snare dot or agro kite. but really your choice as to what you pick.

lol, none taken :P If we cant have alot of hair in the Real World... why not the virtual one?

Its Gnome all the way for me! Heh... We started an all "shorty" guild on TZ a few years ago called < Short Order >, had a popular follwing (all short one :P ). People would freak out to see us in Raid force, lol that was only about 25 of us at the time, but every one would have to stop and stare. PK aspect was pretty fun too!
