PVP server question

I have not played on a PVP server, and I would like too as dueling is very fun to me. But heres my request to you PVP players.. I like pvp but I want a server where I'm not going to have someone attackign me ALL THE TIME.
Where I can enjoy the game itself, with a group or whatever and not have someone always there trying to kill me.
I could see it being a cesspool soon and nearly get ridiculous.
Is this how it is?

I would also like a server with teams, preferably good vs. evil. So at least someone would be on my side. I could imagine the unguilded fellow otherwise being a bit too much at their mercy.

Also as a side note- I've only been playing EQ for about a 1 1/2 yrs.. mainly only leveled a necro and a wizzy. Those I've found are my preferred classes.
I enjoy blowing things up and the necro just owns all, IMHO.
What is the best overall (from the cradle to the grave) PVP (solo) class, meaning 1v1. ?
I would imagine rangers at 65 could be the best, but would think it could be hard to level one..

well as far as getting attacked all the time goes....i play on vallon zek. the teams are short, evil, elf, and human with cats and frogs on human. if you are hunting in zones with players of similar race or solo you won't get attack too often unless you're looking for a fight or going to mega popular zones. i dont really like these tho because this is where people choose to bring their fungi twinks and such to corpse camp people and lame stuff like that. if you like good vs evil better i suppose sullon would be cooler but i dont really dig the xp loss in pvp. (i guess im just not hardcore enough)

as far as class goes i would just play whatever you want to play. i dont try to think of it as there being a "best class". ive played two clerics to 50+ on vallon zek and as long as you have good resists and come up with a good strategy any class can do alright. its always nice to play a class that can go out and solo any time they want or find a group easy tho. just my thoughts on it tho. good luck.
