Did anyone else notice that the 56 pet Servant of Bones is bugged? All other pets before 56 work fine but not 56. I can give him everything but he won't use anything. No weapons, no haste mask, not belts, nothing. I also saw a post on EQ forums about this too so I'm not the only one.

I actually checked this out this morning. He didn't take a blade or a fist from me..but I didn't try weapons from bazaar or anything. Perhaps it's bugged.

It's been a few weeks now. Has there been any word about this getting fixed? I had planned on staying 56 and working on AAs but if this won't get fixed soon then I will get to 59 and work on AAs then. Appreciate your help on this, Jeb.

p.s. was on vacation for a while so just getting back to find that the pet is still bugged.

None..I'm not shocked though. There's been no patch and devs have been on vacation.

I'm not too surprised either, to tell the truth. It is the holiday season and some slacking is to be expected ;)
I will continue to hope that a fix will get snuck in some time before the next patch but I won't hold my breath. It's off to level 59 for me, it seems.
Or maybe to level 63? How often will the 63 Rogue pet actually assasinate a running mob? This could work quite well on light blue mobs in hotzones to get some decent AAs.

Assasinate is quite rare, it's nice as a bonus, but too rare to be used as a valid tactic. And afaik the mob does not need to be running, boner just needs to be backstabbing at the time.
Might be an idea for a future aa....
Give boner an improved chance to assasinate higher level mobs that are under 50%... would be a nice kite tool. The less than 50% might keep boners aggro under the radar on mobs that would outlive the hit. just an idea. ;)

Assassinate is a 32k hit (or 64k, for a rogue who's running Duelist, but pets obviously don't get disciplines). With AAs (which pets don't get) it's level capped at 59, without it's something like 46.
It's level capped so low that it's essentially useless as a kiting tool. Even when you get the first rogue pet, there's generally not a ton of mobs you're fighting (unless you're being lazy, farming for faction/tradeskills doesn't count) that are sub-46. The devs won't increase the level cap specific to pets, as it's a class coded skill, and would affect players as well (without extensive backend coding, which isn't necessary for the good of the game at large).
Given the restrictions on Assassinate, an AA of the nature mentioned would have the same overall usefulness of Innate Wisdom or the various Bind Wound AAs.

Agreed, thats why I suggested higher level mobs.
As far as what it would take to pull it off (coding and such), I have no idea what would be involved. Like I said "just an idea".
But thanks anyway for the elaborate response, ya never fail to amaze

I thought about simply posting what I thought after I read that idea:

But I decided to be nice and give a valid and detailed explanation as to why that idea was stupid as shit.
Your mock gratitude (pathetic attempt at sarcasm) amuses me:

I've asked again(just bumped the old thread in the forum..asking if a dev has seen it). If there's any feedback..I'll let you know.
PS I so just stole that jpg from xel.

Xelgadis, stop being a dick. If you want to provide a detailed explanation then do so. If you want to wave your cock, put it in the inferno like the rest of us.
Last I checked, the 56 pet is a monk, so why were we talking about backstab in this thread anyway? That should have been a whole new thread in itself.
I did provide a detailed explanation, and got a thinly veiled smartass reply in response. And before people start saying that I was a mild smartass myself in my initial post, when am I not one? Since the gauntlet was thrown (and not by me), I came back with an appropriate reply, in that situation the forum is irrelevant. In any case, you don't always restrict yourself to being a dick in the inferno, so the fact that you of all people said that is quite humorous.
But anyway, if you want to discuss this further with me, take it to PM's.

Instead of accusing someone of being a dick for giving you good and well reasoned ideas which prove that your idea was dumb in the first place, why don't you instead take to heart what he has said, and come up with BETTER ideas?
I really don't see how Xelgadis was being a dick in his original reply, he was explaining why it was a bad idea, and you got all defensive and irritated.
When you get down to brass tacks, the pet's assassinate is a useless facet of its already limited functionality. Even if it were able to affect mobs up to level 59 or even 65, the amount of content that this would make it useful for would be so far below anything even remotely useful that it would be completely counter productive to waste our precious dev responses on it.
And doc, if one can post dumb ideas about things and not be accused of derailment, then would it not make sense that someone could post well reasoned debunking of the dumb ideas without also derailing the thread? That's clearly a case of what happened here.

Because I brought it up. I, the OP, asked that since the 56 pet is bugged if it would make more sense to level to the next Rogue pet at 63 to work on AAs or just go with the 59 Warrior pet to AA. I asked because of the assasinate skill on the pet.
I appreciate the productive replies here. ;)

here is a post i made in the pet forum yesterday , i would have to say 3 dif tries, 3 dif times, and using difrent kinds of weapons is pretty conclusive =-/
Today i dinged 56, and thought id try out my monk pet, so i summon him, haste him, give him some pet toys and he eats them. hmmm odd, so i figgure oh well just a one time deal, later on after loggin for a few, i get back on, summon pet, give him toys, he eats them, i then vaugly remember hearing something about how monk pet will only accept the hand to hand toys, so i run to baz, and buy some of the summoned hand to hand weapons ( was using the summoned walnan swords befor this ), give him the hand to hand weapons, and he eats them, needless to say i am quite frustrated, has anyone else heard of this or had this problem? is there a fix ? or just dont use this pet?
*EDIT* just tried agiant his morning lvl 56 pet servant of bones, wouldnt take fists, wouldnt take swords, woulndt take non summoned toys, wouldnt use belts or masks, attacked mobs didnt get the slash messaged or procs, hes just eatting them

All the summoned stuff or did you go bazaar diving?

it was all summoned, i even tried all difrent lvls of weapons and gadgetry, IE belt of the magi kot and lucid belt , took neither, muzzle of mardu and muzzle of mowcha, took neither, Fist of ixibalt,, blade of the kedge, staff of the north winds, the flaming torches and dream catchers, wouldnt take none of it, Ill try non summoned stuff soon as I long on to see if he takes that.

Why go through all the same tests that we went through before when I brought the problem up when it is obvious that it is the same problem and wasn't fixed? I never did test it because I just leveled up to the next Rogue pet and went on with my time, but just because they said it was just waiting for the next patch doesn't mean anything. We all know that SOE is full of empty promises and that they talk out of their ass just to try and calm the angry mob.

well I sent this back to rashere. No reply of course! Perhaps I'll post it on the CC forums so Zatosia can not forward it to him too!

I got some more information on this. Basically, monk NPCs don't equip items. It's just how they are built. Since the 56 necro pet is a monk, that's why they won't equip items. The only fix is to change it to a different class, which has its own set of problems.

I love how the replies I get are so markedly different over such a short period of time.
A few months ago "it's a bug and prathun has it fixed..it should go in with the next patch". A few days ago.."monk pets don't wear gear..and never have".
I know I used to give my monk pet weapons from time to time. WTF
