Sorry I cant post a link, but I read in the Stars And Stripes that EBay has taken the safe route and yoinked all sales of vitrual loots from Everquest, World of Warcraft, and other similar MMOs. This included individual items, and accounts.
'Bout damn time I say. I did enjoy browsing an seeing what was there, but I wouldn't pay real cash money for somone else's account, or items. Should take the gold farmers and item farmers down a small amount until they find a different medium to sell their crap.

They use the free trial accounts and spam people with in-game email for plat selling crap now, it's more than slightly annoying. Until SOE, and other MMOG companies, find a way to legally shut down companies like IGE, plat/account selling/buying isn't going to stop.

they just have to sue them for selling their intellectual property.
In most games you don't own any of your gear, or even your character. You don't buy that stuff you buy access to their servers.

Isnt it against the EULA anyway? So what these companies are doing is against the EULA. Even if the actual companies arent the ones farming the items, SOE should be able to shut them down since they are in effect paying folks to violate the EULA.
Now I am not a lawyer, but I would think that is enough ground to shut down their operations, since it does nothing but promote illegal activities per the written rules.
I would personally like to see it completely stopped. Would for the most part wipe out almost all of the hording, and the in game economy would stabalize. The only remaining sales would be private party, and that would not amount to a whole lot on the grand scheme of things.

Man, that posted site freaks me out. I was living in total ignorance; certainly knew about buying accounts, plat & PL's but...full epics, flags, trial wins, spell arcs, ancient & rk III spells? Now not only do I feel like the ghetto suckass casual wannabe that I am - I feel cheap.

I've heard stories about end game toons selling for several thousand dollars. It's amazing that somebody would pay that much...

Shrea, against the EULA and illegal are two different things. The only thing they can do really is de-activate the accounts which they catch being sold.
IMO it unfortunately happens so often that I don't think they'd ever do it. They use it as a threat, but it'd be bad for business if they did. Infact, I don't think its against the EULA for EQ2 and SOE actually helps with the transfers.
