Okay I found this over at Everquest Casters Realm forums...Its a great guide, although some of the "bugs" are outdated, its definately worth the read if youre starting out or if you are looking for a place to level.

Fellow Necromancers,

HI, I’m currently level 40 and I have decided to share my experience in detail on what I did so far. I have a little over 6 days played so my progress is fairly fast (IMHO - 99% solo leveling w/o being powerleveled). I hope to return to the Necro community that helped me a lot throughout my leveling progression. My gear is very standard and I’m not even wearing a piece for my shoulder and feet lol. My only good gear is the Crystal Spider Eye and a General Coitori Cape (spelling?) and a pair of 6ac 65HP rings. I have the Stein of Mog and a Cone of Mystic. I have 870ish HP at level 40 and i'm an Iksar. If you're any other race, your XP gain will be much faster than my own... and I was leveling fast!!

Lvl 21 - 26
WHERE: Giants Fort in Warslik Wood
Since I last logged off at the giant fort in Warslik Wood over a year ago, I completed my level by killing the giants in the fort. Coming from the Cabalis Zone -> the Giant's Fort, take a right immediately once you're inside the fort. There's a lone tree just behind the first building and this is where I setup camp. You will not get any adds here!

SPELLS: Engulfing Darkness / Leach / Heat Blood / Siphon Life / Feign Death / Siphon Strength / Shock of Poison / Allure of Death

WHAT I DID: What I did was pullled giants with Siphon Strength, and ran towards the pet immediately. I'll run a little past my pet and hit pet attack before turning myself around to face the giant. Usually, the giant is nearly ontop of me when I do this and so the pet never moves much from the parked position. I dropped my DoTs (heat blood & darkness) on the giant, and went in to melee (be a meat shield for your pet). When you get low on health, just backup and lifetap a few times. By then, your pet is still at 80% health, the giant is at 20% and is running away, and you're near full health with about 60% mana. As he is running away, Cast Leach on the giant to steal some HP while you Allure of Death yourself. Sit, rinse and repeat. Giants went by fairly fast. I could take on yellows reliably using this method. It's important to tank for your pet because the giants can really pound your pet into a pulp at this early level... especially the Evergreens Giants… A hurt pet translates to MAJOR downtime.

NOTE: I tried Fear Kiting but i found that method to be too draining on my mana at this early level. Being an Iksar, my mana pool was not high enough to be efficient at fear kiting at lvl 20ish.

Lvl 26 - 29
WHERE: Echo Cavern – Needlites
Enter Echo Cavern from Shadowhaven – Entrance is hidden behind an illusion wall near the Nexus portal. When you approach the Needlite cave, hug the left wall and immediately cut around the left corner. There is a little alcove right around the corner and this is where you setup camp.

SPELLS: Engulfing Darkness / Leach / Heat Blood / Allure of Death / Banshee Aura / Siphon Life / Feign Death / Fear

WHAT I DID: First thing about the Needlites... they hit FAST! The strategy I used is very similar to what I used with the Giants at Lvl 24. I would make sure I have Banshee Aura (Requires: a PEARL), pull the Needlites w/ darkness, /pet attack, drop Heat Blood & Leach on the Needlite and went in melee (be a meat shield again). Between Heat Blood / Leach / your Banshee Aura (they literally kill themselves on your damage shield) / and your pet beating on them, they should run in no time. I usually cast Leach on them again when they run and Life Tap if my health is real low. Turn on Allure of Death and med. I was able to kill the whole room with time to rest before full pop using this method.

NOTE: In the back of the room are 2 Needlites that are linked. To break the spawn, save these 2 for last! Target one Needlite and /pet attack. Retarget the other one and cast Fear. Nuke the first one down ASAP, and try to fear the 2nd one a few times before killing. Another way you can do this is to Feign Death after you kill the first one. You “might” need to suicide your pet this way… but hey, the double spawn is broken!

NOTE 2: Another thing I noticed about Echo Cavern are the tentacles growing from the walls. The tentacles will root and DD you if you get too close. Keep your distance from it.

NOTE 3: If the Queen spawns, use similar startegies. But instead of moving in to attack the Queen, Nuke her a few times until she comes to you instead. If it gets too hot, Feign Death and life tap.

XP GAIN: 2% per kill and slowed to 1% to 2% per kill.
LOOT: Needlite legs and wings stack and sells for 2-3 plats each… 40-50 plat per stack.

LVL 29 -31
WHERE: Dawnshroud Peak – 3 Mushroom spawn / Small Zelniaks
Enter Dawnshroud Peak from the Neth. Zone. You can reach the Neth Zone from the Nexus. I noticed this zone is similar to “Overthere” in terms of people camping a zone line pulling Zelniaks. I tried grouping at this zone line, but the XP is terrible. So I left my group after 40 mins and ventured out into the unknown. I began by following the right zone wall (if you're facing AWAY from the Neth zone). It eventually turns left and takes you to the entrance of Sanctus Seru. DON’T go inside. You will be KOS. Before you get to the Sanctus Seru zone, you will come down a hill and at the bottom of the hill is a group of 3 Fungi Shrooms. Off in the tree line, you will see Small Zelniaks roaming around. From the 3 Fungi Shrooms, run towards Sanctus Seru and setup camp just at the edge of your pull range. This is where I camped for 2 levels.

SPELLS: Engulfing Darkness / Vampiric Curse / Boil Blood / Allure of Death / Spirit Tap / Feign Death / Fear / Shock of Poison.

WHAT I DID: The 3 Fungi Shrooms are on a 10 minute timer so they respawn fast. I would park my pet just beyond my pull range. I targeted a shroom and cast Engulfing Darkness. Immediately I cast Boil Blood and before the Fungi reached me, I would click on “Pet Attack”. I cast Vampiric Curse and Fear. The Fungi will wander off into the tree line but once it reaches the tree line, it will be stuck walking back and forth. I never have to move other than to turn my body to see the action. After 14 seconds, I standup and cast Fear to keep fear on the shroom. Once the shroom reaches 20% and starts to run, I cast Vampiric curse again and sit/med. Depending on the level of the shroom (they all con blue but some are stronger), I will Life Tap or Shock of Poison once.

NOTE: You will be able to take all 3 Fungi Shrooms and still med to near FM before they respawn. No worries. Just off to your right are wandering Small Zelniaks that you can pull. They have a bit more HP than Shrooms but the same strategy applies.

XP GAIN: 1% to 2% per kill.
LOOT: Shroom drops loots that sell for 2-3 plats.

31 – 34
WHERE: Dawnshroud Peak – Zelniaks
From the 3 Fungi Shroom spawn, I moved further down into the zone. A bit aways, if you head past the Lightcrawlers, you will come up on a Shroom Building. Stay in front of the building and keep moving in the direction of Maiden’s Eye. Almost immediately, you’ll see 2 trees situated in front of a “Tribal” camp. If you are looking through the 2 trees (imagine a field goal - football), the Tribal camp is in front of you to the left and the Shroom Building is to your right. Make a pet inbetween the 2 trees and a few paces towards the Tribal camp. This is where I camped for 3 levels.

SPELLS: Engulfing Darkness / Vampiric Curse / Boil Blood / Allure of Death / Spirit Tap / Feign Death / Fear / Shock of Poison

WHAT I DID: The key is to pull wandering Zelniaks to your pet between the 2 trees. I pulled with Engulfing Darkness and ran to my pet. Before they got to the pet, I casted Boil Blood and /pet Attack as the Zelniak reached the tree. Make sure your pet engages the Zelniak INSIDE the 2 trees. Cast Fear, Vampiric Curse, sit and med. Make sure you have Allure of Death on to recover your mana. I refreshed fear on the Zelniak on an average of 2-3 times but it will only wander back and worth between the 2 trees so you never have to move. Always count to 14 and cast Fear. A hurt pet = more downtime. If need be, Life Tap it once or DD it to speed up the kill. This is easy as cake because of the fear pathing. Just make sure to keep the Zelniak feared until it decides to run away.

NOTE: Don’t pull a Large Zelniak or a Tribal even though they con the same. For some reason, they seem to have more HP and requires a few more spells to kill. This slowed down my kill time and I stuck to regular Zelniaks. Every 10-15 minutes, there WILL be 1 Lightcrawler that wanders through the “field goal” and agro you. However, the Lightcrawler is easy to spot because it wanders before the tree and walks over a hill before returning through the 2 trees. Either backup and let it walk past or kill it. Lightcrawlers wield only 1% XP.

XP GAIN: 1% to 2% per kill.
LOOT: None

Lvl 34 - 39
WHERE: Once I dinged lvl 34, I went to buy all my spells and noticed my Torbas Acid Blast sells in IceClad Ocean. I took a port from Nexus and ended up in Great Divide. I Gather Shadow and ran from Great Divide to Eastern Waste to IceClad Ocean and ended up at the spell vendor. I also noticed off in the distance, there were a bunch of Snow Cougars that conned blue and decided to setup camp here. From the campfire and facing towards the Snow Cougars, I ran maybe 50 yards and found a subtle spot on the ground where it seems to be at the highest point before it gradually slopes downwards… (and a Patrolling Gnome will usually stop right on top of this spot)this is where I casted a pet.

SPELLS: Engulfing Darkness / Vampiric Curse / Venom of Snake / Call of Bone / Spirit Tap / Feign Death / Invoke Fear / Shock of Poison

WHAT I DID: This had got to be the easiest camp I done to this point. Make sure your pet is dual wielding weapons to activate dual wield (not sure if it’s required). With the pet buffed (Intensify Death Always), pull a Snow Cougar with Engulfing Darkness and run back to your pet. (I played these levels on F9x4 View. It’s gives a perfect overall view.) Once you reach your pet, turn around and wait! Time your Invoke Fear to land right as the Cougar reach you. Immediately, it will wander around and start walking towards the Gnome Igloos. /pet attack, Venom of Snake, Call of Bone, and sit and med. It’s as simple as this. Invoke Fear usually runs out when the Snow Cougars are in the running mode so I usually never had to cast another spell. All spells will usually expire just before the Cougar dies. There is literally ZERO downtime using this method and the Cougar will only path back and forth right in front of the Igloos until it dies! Every 2 kills, I would Intensify Death the pet.

NOTE: If you get 2 Cougars on your tail, try to Feign Death and re-pull. If you decide to engage the 2 cougars, Invoke Fear on one and sick your pet on the other one. Immediately nuke down the first one. The 2nd one will come immediately after you so right before it reaches you, land your Invoke Fear, /pet attack, Engulfing Darkness, Boil Blood.

NOTE 2: At level 38, half the Cougars will con light blue. Try to pull only the dark blue Cougars. Eitherway, the Xp still rocks! 1% a kill with almost zero downtime and zero risk. Occasionally, run to the back near the docks and see if StormFeather spawns. It’s a big bonus kill if it spawns!

XP GAIN: 1% to 2% initially. Towards Lvl 36+ it’s 1% per kill... but damn it's so effortless and fast! 4 spells (Engulfing, Invoke Fear, Venom of Snake, Call of Bone) = dead Cougar.
LOOT: I looted 9 Cougar Claw Earrings, and many Bloodstain Fangs. I also killed StormFeather and looted one of the map for the Eyepatch of Plunder quest.

LVL 39 – 44+
WHERE: After reading around the forums, I traveled back to Kunark and ended up in the Mines of Nurga. On my server, I’m usually the only one in this zone aside from a few high levels. Nothing in this zone sees invisible so Gather Shadow and drop down the waterfall on your left upon zone in. Follow the tunnel and eventually you will get to the first “rail tracks”. Walk over the tracks carefully (do not fall) and keep going down the tunnel. You will reach the 2nd set of “rail tracks” which you WILL fall through. Just head up the ramp on the right. Once up the ramp, go left and eventually you will end up in an alcove with no monsters. This is where I setup camp.

SPELLS: Dooming Darkness / Vampiric Curse / Venom of Snake / Call of Bone / Spirit Tap / Feign Death / Invoke Fear / Screaming Terror

WHAT I DID: Around your camp, you will notice 4 sets of 2 goblins (actually 5 sets of 2 goblins if you looked hard enough) down the tunnel to the left & right in the various rooms. You will also see a sleeping ogre on the ground. Starting with any 2 goblins, I casted Screaming Terror at one and immediately ran towards my pet. The other goblin will chase you to your pet. /pet attack goblin and land Dooming Darkness, Venom of Snake, Invoke Fear, Call of Bone and med. On caster goblins (Stonechanter, Firedrowser, Boneseers, etc..), I casted Spirit Tap when the goblin is at 20%. This is VERY IMPORTANT! By the time you fire the Spirit Tap and with your pet beating on the goblin, it shouldn’t have a chance to Gate. Gating is BAD… I learned the hard way several times.

This place is a big challenge so far at level 30 and 40. It does require you to be on your toe but you can easily handle about 8 spawns per 20 minutes. The money is good and the loot sells for good plat. Best of all, I’m building faction with Chardok to do my quest there.

XP GAIN: 1% to 2% per kill. Very frequent 2% per kill due to dungeon bonus.
LOOT: I farmed about 200 – 300 plat from loot and vendor junk.

NOTE: THIS IS A CHEAT (I think)… USE AT OWN RISK!! I discovered this trick by accident when I Invoked Fear a Goblin and forgot to snare it. It took off running down several tunnels and eventually ran into a wall at an intersection. It just stood there and it did not run anywhere else. It did not pace nor do anything else. It does fight back if my pet got within melee range but keep it feared and it does not move or fight back. So what I did was pulled a goblin to this spot, /pet Attack, Invoke Fear, Vampiric Curse, Call of Bone, Med and let the pet beat the goblin at the wall. When needed, reapply Invoke Fear and sit back and med. By the time your pet kills the goblin, you have FULL MANA and FULL HEALTH!!!

Right now, I’m at level 40.2 but it should be really fast progression to mid 40s. I’ll update again once I change my camp/strategy.

Hi all, here's another update on what I've done to this point. I'm currently lvl 46 and I’m still moving fast! I stayed inside the Mines of Nurga until level 44. Level 44 went by a bit slow - in about 5 hours - because half of the goblins conned light blue in the Mines. But I was able to take 11 spawns on a 20 minute cycle so it still went by fairly fast. Not to mention, I have 4 piles of Salt and 4 piles of goblin skin now!!

Ok, on to my newest camp.

LVL 44-50
WHERE: After buying all my Level 44 spells, I made a special trip to Echo Cavern to buy my Undead Slow spell "Shackle of Spirit". I went back to the Nexus and took the Kunark Scion portal, which landed me in DreadLands wizard spire. From the spire, I ran directly South into a near empty outpost except for random Plaguebone Skeletons wandering about. In one of the pyramid buildings, you will find several “Plaguebone Thief” wandering about. I setup camp in front of the doorway and summoned Jobober.

SPELLS: Augment Death / Shackle of Spirit / Vampiric Curse / Pact of Shadow / Sense the Dead / Ward Undead / Feign Death / Siphon Life

WHAT I DID: I parked the pet several paces before the pyramid doorway and I cast Sense the Dead. It would target and point me to the closest undead. At level 44, nearly every undead wandering is good Exp. The regular Plaguebone Skeletons are easier followed by the Plaguebone Thieves. I would pull using Shackle of Spirt, /pet attack, and sit and med. Your pet WILL destroy any undead once you land Shackle of Spirit. During the fight, I would blast the Plaguebone continuously with Ward Undead. I know what you’re all thinking… Ward Undead does only 41 damage! Unless you have spent some time upping your Evocation skill, this is an awesome way to up that spell class. I started with 25 Evocation and right now, I’m at 130+ Evocation! I can chain nearly 15-20 Ward Undead spells and lose about 15% mana so my skill raised fast. The Exp is soo easy here… in fact, I can easily pull 4+ Plaguebone Thieves in succession before I have to Pact the pet.

NOTE: Becareful of the Wraithhbone Champions and the Greater Plaguebones. These skeletons are tough! I pulled a Wraithbone Champion by accident (it conned even at lvl 44) and I had to burn my entire mana to beat it. My health and my pet's health was at 15-20% after the fight. I swear those things have near 10000 HP.

LOOT: 0 - 4pp per skeleton. Random Words and a NO-Drop quest letter page.
EXP: 1% per kill

I hear Lower Guk is also good for Experience. Now that I know how Shackle of Spirit will destroy an undead, I might head out there to check things out. Maybe I’ll pick up some uber loot too! I'll be updating soon.. maybe after I get level 49 or 50 or if I move camp to Lower Guk.

Finally the big Ding...Level 50! I took some time after i got lvl 49 to try my luck on a pair of Journeyman's boots. LOL. I wasted literally 3-4 days of playing and no Jboots. I could've leveled at least 2-3 times instead haha. Oh well... luck is like that sometimes. Well here is my update. I have 9.5 hours played and I'm level 50.4 right now. I can't wait to get Level 51 so I can do some AA Xping

LVL 49 - 50+
WHERE: After I got my 49th level, I decided I wanted to get a pair of Journeyman's boot! I bought all of my spells in a few hours, including the 49th pet and Lich and took the Freeport porter from PoK. I ran to South RO and tried to spawn the AC in the desert... The zone was mostly empty except a 2 other farmers looking for the AC... so the chances of me killing the AC is fairly good. After about 2.5 hours, the AC spawned!!! OMG OMG OMG.. but it spawned next to the Dark Elf vendors and by the time I got to it, it was already down to 40% health. I got in a Torbas' blast and a few pet swings but when the AC died, it poofed into thin air *SIGH* Another 5 hours and the AC never spawned.. so I decided to check out the "static AC spawn" in OOT. While I was on the AC island, someone instructed me to pull Seafury Cyclopses from the Island to the west while I waited inbetween AC spawns. After a few hours at the AC island, i pretty much gave up on the Journeyman's boots and decided to level some more.

SPELLS: Cascading Darkness / Para Earth / Bond of Death / Pact of Shadow / Siphon Strength / Feign Death / Siphon Life / Augment Death / (Spirit Armor)

WHAT I DID: I ran to the Seafury island and parked my pet along the Eastern shoreline (closest to the Ancient Cyclops island) and buffed him up with Augment Death and Spirit Armor. I kept myself in Lich until FM or until my health dips below 60%. I would pull a Seafury with Siphon Strengh and run to my pet. Then /pet attack, Cascading Darkness, Bond of Death, Pact of Shadow on the pet, Lich, and sit and med the rest of the fight. Using this method, I was able to end the fight with near full health, near full health on the pet, and 10% less mana than I started. I just have to sit and med 30 seconds to get full mana. Using this method, I was able to kill 4 Seafuries in a row, was near full mana, full health, and still have near 2 minutes left on the first Seafury corpse. This is FAST killing.

NOTE 1: The Ancient cyclopse spawns on the island to the East of this Seafury island. The placeholder is a Pirate / Cyclops / Boog Something / Aqua Goblin. As I said, I camped the AC spawn a few times and pulled Seafury Cyclops to this island in between the 6 minute AC spawn. I have yet to land the AC and I've camped him for a total of 5-7 real hours now... Maybe you guys will have better luck than me.

NOTE 2: Stay AWAY from Quag Maelstorm. He's a complete undercon. Although he's blue and my pet can take him to 70% health w/o any assistance from me, i've died 2x to him. Why you ask? Because he DRAINS YOUR MANA. I couldn't cast spells fast enough to damage him and heal my pet. I had to Feign Death.. but it failed on me the first time. The second time, I Liched myself to 15% health to get mana and he came after me instead of the pet... WACK WACK I was dead.

I have yet to see the Corrupt Seafury but I hear he's a tough quest mob. So stay away.

NOTE 3: A few times, I pulled 2 Seafuries by accident. The first time, a magician camping close to me asked if I needed help and I said no. Here is what I did: I backed up and let my pet tanked both for a lil bit. I had to Feign Death to get both off me a few times. Once the Seafuries are on Jojober, I Para Earth one and kept on tellin Jojober to <Back> and <Follow> so I got some distance between the 2 Seafuries. After that, it's was easy... I Kill one Seafury normally.. and I also Dotted the rooted one at the same time. By the time my pet killed the first one, the 2nd Seafury was already at 65% health. NECROS ROCK!!

LOOT: 0 - 6pp per cyclops and random jewels, random Words. I've got about 650 plats on me and ALOT of jewels that I know sells for good PP. I even destroy some gold so I could hold more PP lol! This is only leveling from 49 to 50. The loot is great here!

EXP: a tiny fraction less than 1% per kill. Took maybe 105-107 Seafury to ding level 50.

I'm now level 51 and i'm working on my AA. I need to get run3 before I continue to level. I'm going to give the Seafuries a try for AA. Not sure how fast it will be

--------------

Ok quick update on the Seafurys. I found a more mana efficient way to solo the Seafuries. This is what i did at level 50:

Pulled with Siphon Strength and run all the way to the water. /pet attack when the Seafury is standing on the edge of the waterline. Cast Dooming Darkness, Bond of Death, Pact of Shadow, and Lich. By the time the Seafury is near 60% to 70% health, I cast Fear.

Using this method, I used less mana than the previous method of Cascading Darkness / Bond of Death. The pet took less punishment, and I didn't have to Pact of Shadow as often = overall alot less downtime. My personal best was 6 dead Seafuries and I still had 15 seconds loot time left on the first Seafury corpse. heh

Each fight, I would be near FM and FH for me and the pet.

Much much easier to use and alot less mana used per kill.

NOTE: This "bug" has been patched, so this no longer works.

Alrite guys.. here's my latest update on what' i've been doing lately. I'm still level 51 because I havn't gotten time to play much lately but I did find something really really interesting in Neriak... might be considered a cheat unfortunately Anyhow, I've almost got Run3 now and I'll be working on Regen3. Once I get both, I'll begin leveling again!

lvl 51-53

Where: Neriak Commons
I read a guide on neriak guards and I thought I would give this place a try. Basically, I was looking to farm some plats while leveling up a bit and I hear this place was rocking! I ported into Neriak's porter from PoK. Run NE and make sure to have Gather Shadow up. Zone into Neriak Foreign Quarters and run up the right pillar over the wall. This will put you near the zone out to Neriak Commons. Zone into Neriak Commons and soon you'll come to a bridge with bodies of water on the right and left.

Spells: Splurt / Bond of Death / Ignite Blood / Dead Man Floating / Feign Death / Anything else you want.. but most spells get resisted by the guards.

What I Did:
Basically I floated over the water on the RIGHT side if you're facing AWAY from Neriak Foreign Quarters. When I tried to pull a guard on the bridge, it would not move. At first I tried to pull it to my pet but when it wouldn't move, I just decided to "cook" it. Pretty much, I used 3 spells to kill any guard... Splurt, Ignite Blood, and Bond of Death. These 3 spells will kill any of the Neriak Guards except for Dragoon V'Rette... which takes 2 Splurts, 2 Ignite Blood, and 1 Bond of Death. As long as I was floating above the water, they would not come after me... now, I don't know if this is legal.. or if you could get into trouble for this.. so please use at your own risk.

Exp: 1% per kill at level 51.

AAXP: 1% per kill at level 51.

Loot: Up to 6pp a kill and Vendor loot... Long Sword (11+pp), FS weapons (4-6pp), Shield (1+ pp)

Note: I can not single pull these Guards at level 51. Everytime I pull them and I floated onto land, 2 guards usually come at me. So make sure to keep DMF up at all times and park ur body over the water. Dont use this method if you feel like you'll get into trouble. I probably wont' be here too much longer and i'll find a new and more "legit" camp.. lol. But I gotta say, it's definitely FUN discovering all these nifty things when I explore all these different zones![/i]

Happy New Years all!!

Here's a quick update on what's happening with me so far. I was once at lvl 55 just playin around with different zones... but I decided to farm money and AA points so I deleveled to 54. I basically sat at the Neriak Commons and farmed for days on end... I have 12 AA points now and have enough points for SCM2. I'm 1 kill from dinging lvl 55. I upgraded a few pieces of armor and I also bought Demi-Lich. I'm at 1559 HP unbuffed at level 54 and I'm still wearing a few crap pieces of equipment (aka... Gem Inlaid Gaunt, Foreman's Cap, etc.. lol) I'll work on my HP gear in the next few days and I "should" be able to break 1600+HP unbuffed. The only piece of gear that is ultra expensive is Robe of Haunted Dreams (I bought for 8k) and TerrorClaw's Hide (3k). Other than that, my gear is easily within reach for everyone.

For the brief time I was lvl 55, I checked out Plane of Disease and found a few things very killable. I havn't fully explored the zone, but I'll describe my pesonal solo experience below:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHERE: Plane of Disease
I zoned into PoTranquality from the book in PoKnowledge. Go out the door and turn right. Run a lil bit and you'll see a giant sewage dumb pipe thingy... go into the sewage hole to zone into PoDisease. When you zone into PoDisease, you're safe on a graveyard. From this graveyard, I DMF and ran straight forward onto the island infront of the graveyard. This is the Island I camped successfully for a couple of hours.
SPELL:
Dooming Darkness / Splurt / Bond of Death / Deflux / Envenomed Bolt / DMF / Lich / FD.
Swap out DMF for Augment Death / other utility spells as needed.
WHAT I DID:
The things I was killing are called Tset[something] Flys. There are a group of 5 of them (that's visible to you) immediately to the right of your camp. There is a group of 3 and a group of 2. Okay, buff up your pet (I used Rogue Pet) and have him /guard on the middle of the island. MAKE SURE HIS TAUNT IS OFF!!! Stand on a little mound before the flys and target one. Now BACK UP until you're just within casting range and cast Dooming Darkness. Immediately FD because until the spawn is broken, 2 WILL ALWAYS come. Once the add walks back to his camp and reset, stand up and the fly you casted Dooming Darkness on will chase you.
Run a bit away and cast Envemon Bolt. Run away, /Pet Attack and cast Splurt. Run a bit more and cast Bond of Death. By now, your Envenom Bolt should be running out.. as soon as it runs out (the mob will be around 50%ish life), refresh Dooming Darkness. When your Bond of Death runs out, cast a Deflux.
The fly should be stuck to you like stink on s**t... Just run in large square patterns and the fly will follow you to the end of earth. What I like to do is run and sit, run and sit.. When you sit, you generate more aggro.
When the fly is below 20%, it will usually stop chasing you and enter flee mode. Clean up and throw on a Deflux if your health is low.
XP: Each fly will give you 2% AA at level 55. Not sure about normal XP unfortunately.
LOOT: They rarely drop legs, wings, parts, etc... These are all vendor loot that sells for decent plats.. as far as I know.
NOTE 1: This camp is a bit troublesome in a few ways. First of all, if your FD fails on pull, you WILL NEED TO immediately stand up, run away and FD. Keep spamming /pet backoff to keep the pet from aggroing the Fly... or else, the pet will die, you will not kill the Flies, and will waste time and mana summoning and buffing a pet. Failed FD when splitting the camp is VERY VERY ANNOYING...
NOTE 2: There is one (1) occasional wandering Swamp Rat... don't worry, you're not within range for it to aggro you.. BUT if you pull a fly and aggro the rat, I would suggest /FD and /q to clear aggro. The rat will not reset and will most likely chase you after you stand up... and bring a family of Malaria Mosquitos. So either /FD and /q to clear aggro or kill the Rat before it wanders off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think these flys will get you to high 50s. I know there are other spots in PoDisease to solo but I havn't had time to explore much. I'll be doing some exploring tonight and hopefully have something new to report.

NOTE: I believe these mobs have been nerfed too, in fact they may have been taken out all together...if somone could confirm this, it would be appreciated.

Okay, quick update. I'm now level 57. Work started to pick up so I basically played about 3 hours a day or so. Anyways, to get from 55 to 57, I leveled at either the Tsetian Flys in PoDisease or this place I'll describe below.

BTW, i just picked up Augmentation of Death (lvl 55 pet buff) and it's NICE!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHERE: Neriak Foreign Quarters
Zone into Neriak Foreign Quarters from Nektulos Forest. Float up the right wall and you'll see a very short tunnel in front of you. If you take a right, you'll see Trolls and Ogres. This is where I split my time leveling. The entire city is not KOS to you so feel free to run around and chk things out.
SPELL:
Dooming Darkness / Invoke Fear / Splurt / Deflux / Cession of Cor / Augmentation of Death / Demi-Lich / FD.
Swap out DMF for Augment Death / other utility spells as needed.
I also used Servant of Bone (Monk Pet) for this zone.
WHAT I DID:
Basically my targets were as follows: Jacker, Uglan, Capee, Svunva (spelling?), Karnan, Mrak. These guys are all supposedly near lvl 50. Of the bunch, Svunva is the hardest, followed by Capee then Uglan then Mrak then Karnan and lastly Jacker. To pull, have pet /follow you around, enter the building and Dooming Darkness on target. Immediately /pet Attack and followed by Invoke Fear. Every target will follow an exact fear path and will end up at the small tunnel, pacing back and forth (as long as you keep Dooming and Fear on.)
To pull Uglan - Enter building on his side, cast Invoke Fear 1st, and then spam Dooming.
To pull Svunsa - Enter building on Uglan's side, head upstairs, and cast Invoke Fear 1st. Float out the window and back up towards the door you came in from. When you see Svunsa across the room, hit him with Dooming. By the time you land Dooming, Svunsa should just right in front of you. Sick him with your pet!
Everyone else, pull with Dooming, Pet Attack, Fear, Splurt, Cessation, Deflux and sit your butt down near the stump. Majority of the time when fear wears off, your target will WALK BACK TO YOU, allowing you to recover more mana while your pet beats it unnoticed.
As an Iksar, I get 1% every 2-3 kills.. often 3 kills. Not too shabby. I thought flys in PoDisease are faster but there are sooo many idiots kiting and training @#$% on me. All I gotta say is @#$% you lame ass kiters that can't control your pull. Die with honor.
XP: Like I mentioned earlier, 1% every 2-3ish kills. Slow but steady.
LOOT: They drop words and plats. from 0plats to 10 plats. Averages to about 5 plats a kill. Nothing fancy.
NOTE 1:
You have to kill both Uglan AND Capee before you can pull Svunsa. To split Uglan and Capee, open the doorway near Capee and target Uglan. Cast Dooming and run... (there's a shortcut to run up the walls) to the left of the Capee's door, there is a wall with a face of a statue on it. If you have DMF on, you can run directly at the face and it'll float you up to the top of the building. From here, run and FD at the corner of Jacker's building. From here, you will have the perfect camera angle (F9x4 and pan the view down) to let you know when Capee has reset.
NOTE 2:
If you are a DE Necro, don't touch Capee, Uglan or Suvavn cause they have The Dead faction (DE necro guild?) unless you could care less about it.
Okay, that's all folks. Now that i'm 57, I'm going to take another trip to PoDisease. I plan on killing Goos and Rats there. Hopefully they will resist me less often than when I was 55. I could kill them at 55, but it wasn't efficient because of constant resists.
I'll add more as time comes.
Alrite folks! I am now level 61!! Believe it or not, I leveled all the way to 61 on the Neriak Trolls and Ogres. Level 59 really sucked, but I still got 1% every 3-4 kills. At level 60, the levels flew by FAST!!! I was getting 1% every 2 kills. Anyhow, I just wanted you all to know getting to level 61 is possible here. It's safe, hardly ever any competition, and because it's in an off part of the city, there's hardly any newbies bothering you.
Why did i stay here through level 59 and not go to the planes? Here is why: I kited goos and rats at PoD at level 59 and i often get 1% every 3 kills. Yes it's faster... BUT every so often, you multi aggro a spider, pull 2+ goos, etc.. and you have to /FD /Q and restart by summoning and buffing a new pet. IT's ANNOYING!!! Trust me, with all the downtime included at PoD - and having to compete with other people for pulls, it was ALOT faster at the trolls / ogres.
Neriak Trolls / Ogres
Level 58: 3 kills will equal 1%
Level 59: 3 but often 4 kills will equal 1%
Level 60: 2 kills will equal 1%
I found a strategy to pull all 6 spawns in 1 cycle. Jacker / Uglan / Mrak / Karnan / Capee / Svunsa is the order i pull them in. I use the MONK pet and it does very well.
Anyhow, I'm off to explore the world. No more xp grinding for a while. I will visit ALL the lands from Norrath to Kunark to Velious and really enjoy exploring each zones with my pet. When I do start XPing again, I'll update everyone.
BTW - I'm level 61 with 19 days played - and I did it using the exact strategies I wrote. Have fun and good luck!!
At level 34, don't forget those lovely tree huggers in WC begging to be slaughtered by you. Decent experience plus nice loot. The ever forgiving Slea sells to anyone (maybe she is blind and deaf, who knows) so you can get rid of all them FS weapons those silly druids/rangers drop as well as the occasional jewelry item. To split the spawn is easy. Set youself up on the soutwest corner towards the wiz spires. Invoke fear the one on the right, set pet on the left one. Cast domming and fear on it while pet has it side tracked, CoB, VC, then VoS. Sit and med while it dies quickly, wait for the other to come running back. Fear usually breaks on it by the time first one is down. You should be aournd 80m when it gets back. Use same combo on it as you did on the #2. Then loot both corpses, sell to good 'ol Slea, then sit back away slightly from ring and wait fo rthe pop. The spawn is split nicely plus the tree huggin hippies are easier to slaughter if you get them before they buff themselves. They are each on about a 6 min spawn time, so not a long wait and plenty of cash to be had. Have fun being evil and ruining your druid faction!
Azraael, thanks for the advice!
I hunted at the druid rings from 34-36 then I got bored. Yes, it is good cash...but it definately gets boring quick. Now I'm looking to find a group in OT SF ramp, I heard thats good exp and seeing as that I have soloed from 1-36 I feel its time for a little change.
Xveer, as far as I know, no. But I havent done everything in the guide, I'm sure Sslyther would have mentioned it though.
Did anyone had the chance to try the Neriak Foreign Quarters? I was wondering if those mobs were removed? Also, what kind of faction hits are we getting by killing mobs other than Capee, Uglan and Suvavn (I know those affect the DE Necro guild faction)?
Also, did anyone tried soloing or group killing the Cliff Golems at the Overthere Outpost? They con even at lvl 58. I was about to give them a try since my factions is lost with the Outpost (see Hollowing Stones).
Thanks in advance,
Ok, not sure if this will help but around a month ago, I was exploring Nerriak Foriegn Quarters just to see what it all has (usually Id run past it going to other places I needed to be) I happened to come upon a Ogar/Troll looking thing...needless to say I wasnt ready at all to be attacked and was killed. Unless one of the patches after that has taken out these mobs, I do belive they are still there.
Thanks for the advice, Im level 60 and was looking for someplace to go for 61. I will try there again, as I have some needed revenge to gain from at least one killl muhahahaha. :)
Gunthak Beach's undead trolls and skellies camp is great from lvl 39 to lvl 44.
You can single pull with Rest the Dead and pet has no problem tanking them after slowed with Shackle of Spirit. At lvl 43, you start seeing some of them com light blue to you but they still gave me 1% xp per kill. Cash drop isn't bad either. There are 2 named mobs in the undead camp that I know of: 1 is by the water line (Undead Troll called Mokon) - this one is SK and HTs casts spells. Another one is inside a ship in SE corner of the beach (Skellie called Sea Captain something) - this one is melee only and a lot easier than Mokon guy. I got a charm off Mokon (and useless WIS range item) and sleeves from the Captain.
After hitting lvl 44, I headed to Great Divide for faction camp. Fear kiting is quite easy near EW zone line and Giants there currently (lvl 46 now) give me 1% xp per kill. I got enough toes and heads to start off my Coldain Shawl quest too :) I am aiming to get at least dubious faction with Claws of Veeshan so that kiting in Cobalt Scar may become easier when I lvl a bit more. While I was at it, I also got Drakkel Wolf Whiskers for the 6th or 7th shawl quest as well (yes, crogging up my bank slots...but they will come handy in future I hope).
I am going to start trade skilling now... /cry
Good day, my fellow Necromancers. I have a few tips that will ge you to level in no time at all.
Level 1-12- Stay in East commons killing everything that you can, if you are a twink you will find this very easy. Once you get high enough, go to Orc Camps (Around level 9ish) with a group. Once you reach level 12, go get your spells.
Level 12-16- Go to Oasis. Kill the Caimens and Spiders and anything that is Blue - Yellow. You should have no trouble if you are twinked, if not, make sure you have full mana and a SoW at first to try this out. Once you reach lvl 16, get your spellsup to level 24, trust me.
Level 16-24- Go yo Luclin and run to Shadowhaven, then zone to Paldaul Caverns. The exp in this zone is unGodly! A character (any class) with a group here at camp 1 or camp 2 can get to level 24 here in about 3-4 hours if they non-stop exp and have all their spells on them. Once you reach level 24, get your spells up to level 29.
Level 24-34- I know it seems old and outdated, but go to South Karana Paw Spires. There is almost nobody here, and as a Necromancer, you can non-stop kill the Gnolls with little downtime and make levels VERY fast, if there is someone who wants to group with you, dont be stingy, do it, it will make killings go faster. Once you reach level 34, go get all of your spells.
Level 34-44- This next part is not for everbody, alot of people dont like being KOS to Freeport, however, you can level VERY fast by doing this, AND make North Freeport, which has the bank, like you very much. Go to West Commons and go to the Guard Hut. Wait until one of the guards runs out and attacks a snake or bear or something, then just cast your snare on him and do what you do. That will break the spawn nicely. Stay there until level 44. The exp is so very fast. If you think it gets slow at about level 39, I would suggest Dawnshroud Peaks maybe, I was told the exp is GREAT there, but I am not too sure, having never been there to fight myself.
Level 44-53- I was in Buring Wood in Kunark killing the undead that spawn at that ruins place, not too sure of the loc. Using my undead slow made these things SO easy to kill. There are alot of spawns there, so becareful. But I will promise you, you will level nicely here, with little resistance from the undead mobs. Snare, send pet, Slow, (if you ant Fear, I would not reccomend it until after the spawns are ALL broke up), DoT/DD, and heal pet as needed.
I am currently at level 53 and am having trouble finding a good experience place. If I find one, I will surely let everyone know about it. Until next time, my fellow Necromancers, good day.
Just wanted to add something. I'm at lvl 56, from lvl 51 to 54 I hunted in Dulak, the XP was not great but it is steady and the loot can be good. 54 to 56 I have been grouping in the planes, and was lucky enough to get a group in PoV at 56. I was only 2 blues into 56 but only after 3 hours I had collected 2 AA's and 1 yellow into 56. Most of my spells landed Cession of Cor, dooming, splurt and the group buffs we have (STM STG and ATK) landed most of the time. Might be something worth think about if you get the chance.
Well, I just recently rejoined EQ and picked up my 56 Necro. I left quite some time ago (just before PoP came out) and having been gone so long I was *stunned* at the speed of experience for a 50+ available in the planes. Since this guide doesn't have a whole lot of info 50+, I thought I'd share what I've learned.
I would recommend Ice Giants in Everfrost up to 52. They are at the zoneline to Permafrost, 2 in the "castle" towers and 2 in the "tunnel." They're easy to get to with the LDoN teleport feature, and there are enough of them (4) that you'll never have to wait for pulls. Fear kite them with a pet and DoTs. Nothing else in the area can touch you. It's also relatively impossible to screw up pulls, as the giants are nicely separated. Great loot.
52 to 55 I did in Katta Castellum. Without a map, it's kind of hard to explain... if you zone in from Twilight (the fastest way to get there), you emerge into a tunnel that leads to a circular room filled with guards. Bear right, and you'll run a LONG way over an open area on a walkway. Follow the walkway and you'll walk into tunnel with lots of rooms and arched doorways. It may seem confusing, but there is actually only one path through to the other end of the tunnel - you'll find it. Once you come out the other end from where you came, you're there. It's a wide, open courtyard with 2 buildings and a set of stairs to your left. I'd move past the stairs and set up camp near the low wall to your left. In front of each of the buidings and at the base of the stairs, the guards spawn in twos. At 52, your spell lineup should be: Feign Death, Lich, Bond of Death, snare, envenomed bolt, splurt, some root spell, and ignite blood. The guards can be singled if you angle your pulls correctly, but if you get an add, just feign-break the spawn. I pulled with snare, then ebolted them as they ran at me. I waited to root after the ebolt so that the DD on ebolt didn't break the root. After that, the other dots do no direct damage and won't break the root. Keep them snared and rooted and watch them die. Great xp. If you need extra space to run, run behind the buildings. They'll follow you. Depending on what snare you use, you shouldn't have to reapply dots. (aside from snare).
**Note: If you insist, these guards can be fear-kited with a pet. I found it harder, though, due to adds. The key is to pull the guards behind the longer of the two buildings; back there, their fear pathing gives you a nice little area to kite.
The Katta guards are theoretically good up to 60. However, I found the xp slowed down once I hit 56, and once you're 55 there's NO excuse not to be in PoP.
Once you're 55 or 56, it's time to head to Planes of Power. The xp available in the planes is so good it's hilarious. Before I get to specifics, though, there are a few things I've learned.
1.) Buy a mount. It doesn't matter if you get an expensive one or the cheapest one; a lizard or a horse. I scrounged up the money and bought the cheapest horse for 10k. Just do it. When you're on it, you are ALWAYS medding, and that *greatly* enhances your ability to solo. You can also stay in lich/demilich form while on the mount, gaining the benefit of sitting regen, meditation, and lich/demilich all at the same time. When you're running, you're medding. When you're casting, you're medding. GET A MOUNT. It's hard to stress this too much.
2.) Solo in the planes is the best solo experience in the game. Period. You'll wonder why you did anything else once you get the hang of it. However, soloing in the planes is harder than other soloing. There's less room for error in most cases, and it can be mana-intensive without a mount. (GET A MOUNT). However, solo in the planes, since it is harder, is prone to having downtime from mistakes. 90% of all screwups are easy to fix with FD and /q. There are also tons of high level characters in the planes, so rezzes shouldn't be torture. I guess my point is that unless you're able to keep your cool while you're being chased by something that quads for 300, solo in the planes might not be for you.
3.) As good as solo xp is, group xp is better. Groups (especially groups in Plane of Valor) are generally faster than solo. However, being a Necromancer gives you the unique advantage of not needing a group. Usually, I would solo with LFG tag on until I got asked to group. I turned down any groups that were not in the planes. Plane of Valor is the best xp until level 62 (and is plenty good all the way to 65, but at level 62 many go to Bastions of Thunder). All the other planes that you can get into without flags - Storms, Disease, Nightmare, Innovation - are fairly equal, and are usually camped by at least one group. To sum things up, put on your LFG tag and solo until you get a group. Necros are generally appreciated as good DPS in a group, especially post-60 when our pets become amazing and we get good, fast DoTs. To prove my point, here's a little story.
59 has always been known as the last great "hell" level. It's the longest level in the game in terms of amount of xp required to get through it. Compared to 59, every level from 60 to 65 is a breeze. Before PoP, some people spent weeks trudging through 59. I was 59 for one day. I hit 59 at about 10 o'clock one Friday night. After dancing around and celebrating and memming my new lifetap and pet and running off on a guild raid, it was about 1 in the morning. I got a tell asking if I wanted to be in a Plane of Valor group. I couldn't resist. When I got to the group, I was 1/2 of a blue into 59. The group stayed all night, and the experience was so good that I stayed too. By 11 in the morning saturday morning, I was 4 yellow -80% - into 59. I fell asleep, came back later in the day, and soloed the rest in about 3 hours. By Saturday night at midnight, I was 60.
Alright, on to the soloing the planes guide.
Solo tactics in the planes are not like solo tactics anywhere else. The mobs all hit for at LEAST 200, and most have a great amount of HP. Root/dotting is possible, but terribly inefficient. Fear kiting is simply suicide. So the way to go is aggro-kiting; getting the mob to chase you while your pet actually does most of the work. This involves a lot of running, which is why a mount is such an advantage - having a mount lets you meditate on the move. You should get one.
In a nutshell, aggro kiting is easy. You turn off pet taunt, snare the target mob, toss a few dots on it, and sic the pet once the mob is firmly attached to you. Then just run the mob around and periodically re-snare until it dies. Since pets do most of the work, use the rogue pet (it has the best dps thanks to backstab until the 61 pet, although the 59 pet is pretty nice too). Make *sure* the pet does *not* taunt. The fine points of this strategy are where the problems usually surface:
1.) Building enough aggro. You MUST NOT sic the pet at the beginning of the fight, or the pet will aquire enough aggro to cause the mob to kill it, leaving you without a damage source. In every situation I've had so far, I've used the same spell sequence. Snare, ignite blood/pyrocruor, splurt, and snare again. Then sic the pet and stack other dots. I've never lost aggro as long as I followed that pattern.
2.) Letting snare run out. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN. EVER. If it does happen, FD immediately. I would not suggest trying to recover, but rather a good old FD and /q. Once I got confident and learned my solo areas, I knew places that I could run to get enough space to resnare, but it's NOT easy.
3.) Getting the pattern down. It's kind of odd, running and casting and running and casting. You're also usually running along a zonewall, which means you're running and casting and running and casting on the side of a hill. It takes some getting used to. You'll learn how far away you can be and still get a spell off before the mob hits you. This was the hardest thing for me - I died a few times perfecting my timing. Be patient; you'll get it. Also, don't run in one direction. Snared mobs can't turn very well, so it's better to run to a certain point, cast, turn, run around the mob to another point, cast, turn, run around the mob back to the first point, etc.
4.) Losing the pet. If the pet dies, give up. FD, /q, come back and summon another pet to try again. Or better yet, just don't let the pet die in the first place.
Okay, enough of the tactics. I make it sound harder than it is. Here are the PLACES.
1.) My favorite - plane of nightmare. You zone in right by a zone wall, and the whole surrounding area is a great place to aggro kite. You'll learn that the mobs don't come past a certain line that runs parallel to the zone wall, and it leaves you a huge area to kite. Gnarled treants, young bats, virulent hatchlings/arachnids, and blood raves are all equally good targets. Have fun.
2.) Plane of Disease - covered pretty well above.
3.) Plane of Storms - there are a few frogs at the zone in that can be feign-split with tons of room to kite. Have fun.
4.) Plane of Valor - Yes, you can solo in plane of valor. There are several spots, all along the outer zonewall. There's no real guide to get to them or a specific spot; come here once you're good at solo and you'll know where they are. Stick to the golems; some bugs can't be snared. This plane is the hardest to solo in, but also is the best xp. If you get hit, you're dead; the mobs quad for 500.
All 4 of these places are good to at least 63. I'm sure you can solo/group Plane of Valor all the way to 65, but I've heard there are other planes (Fire and HoH to be exact) that are better but only 62+. Since I'm 60, I dunno. I'll report back though. :-)
Hope this helps.
I would like to add a few places i found that were good for leveling.
I would like to start by saying I am an iksar so i found myself gravitating towards Kunark mobs. Not by choice, but it just worked out that way.
30ish- At some point around level 30, after spending time in many different places, I came back to FM in kunark. I treid nurga and was great but after the revamp i am not sure what levels can solo there good. The pathing bug may still be there but i have noticed several additional mobs nearby that make this not so good. The giants in fm got me quickly to 35th. you may find other places with much better exp but i made a small fortune while there and to me, exp and cash is always better than exp alone. spells start to get expensive at this level.
40ish- I cant remember exactly where i was for the last five levels but i hit 39 and was desperate for some good exp again. I asked a necro in the guild and he suggested FV. I almost laughed and cried at him at the same time. I had spent almost all my career to this point in kunark and was desperate for something different. But i trusted my friend and went to fv. I couldnt find one thing really worth thew effort so I asked again what it was im looking for in FV. At this point I did cry as I was told to look for a camp of three giants near swamp zone. I HATE GIANTS. ive killed so many. But again I trusted him and went to this giant camp. LO and behold, he wasnt kidding. this camp of three giants logged me one level per day on average and i dont play but 5-6 hours a day. At the same time in those ten levels i got there i made close to 10k. This WILL get you to 50 in no time.
HERE IS WHAT I DID... Park pet on hill just northwest of camp towards zone to SONH. One mob will be closer to you than the other two. This mob will single pull every time. Pull with dark and run back to hill. Cast tap over time, then fear. at lower levels you will need to add a few of your best dots. Do this as mob walks away. Now hit pet follow. this will allow your pet to return faster than if they are guarding. When fear wears off tap the back off button several times. The pet will return to you and the snared giant will follow. I like to call this "Tether Kiting". When mob returns refresh fear and maybe snare and do untill dead.
The next mob you will need to mez pull. I liked to mezz the one on the right (who was actually furthest away). At lower levels the other will auto aggro when you mez so no need to pull. This is the tricky part as you will want to have pet tank just long enough to dark and fear then add dots. At the higher 40s i found that the other wasnt in such a hurry to aggro when i mezzed so I pulled him with dark and repeated the steps as above. The last mob being all alone was just a repeat of same tactics.
You might find that the pathing of the mobs depends on there position when fear hits. some walked to the right side of camp but most ran right through camp. This may sound scary for add aggro, but the mobs are NON SOCIAL. you can run a feared mob right through camp and as long as you are on the hill they will not aggro. This is where i learned to "Tether Kite". if done right you will only leave the hill to loot and pull.
I was very skeptical about the speed of repop. I had found many times that a camp was great for exp only to find that i killed them all and had to wait 10 mins more for repop. This is not the case here. I never timed it but they repop fast enough that at lower levels you might find yourself pulling the first two and never getting to the third. at higher levels I could kill all three with a min of med between and it was non stop. Kill med min, kill med min, kill med min, repop!
This will get you to 49 and you may even sqeeze 50. I did 40-49 in nine days and made around 10k.
50ish- Once again i found myself back in Kunark hunting giants. This time in BW. some of you might even be familiar with this camp as it has always been popular for spell drops. But everywhere else i went paled in comparison. I only stayed at this camp untill around 52 or 53. the mobs come solo for the most part and there is a huge amount of space around the hut to fear kite. The loot here was even better than the others and this camp has a named as well. Pretty straight forward camp.
52ish-56- Finally my necro buddy told me of a place he was leveling his shammy. He thought it would be good for a necro and I went with him and did some testing.
In Nadox at the succor point. there are 6 shrine bruisers who will all single pull and quite a few from inside the temple will single as well. I started back near the zone to torgirans near the crates and feared the first two mobs from there. then as i worked my way closer to the temple i feared from closer to the succor point. These mobs are social so be careful to time your mobs! Loot was even better than giants and i made a fortune in gems and drops from named. the spritcharmer pops ther as well as an "Insta" spawned named. both drop decent loot and the insta spawn drops a charm that works when you have an illusion on. ))) This camp got my shammy friend to 58 but he said it was getting slow. As an iksar, by the time i got 56 i had noticed my exp penalty finally chewed the "sweetness" from the camp but continued to give great AA exp untill 59 when most become LB.
I really hope this helps a few of you out there. I really wanted to pass along the little known FV camp as it seemed so hard to find a good solo spot in my 40s. O and if there are any other questions about "Tether Kiting" id be happy to post that as well. I am lazy and never like to chase mobs all over ))
Level 24-34- I know it seems old and outdated, but go to South Karana Paw Spires. There is almost nobody here, and as a Necromancer, you can non-stop kill the Gnolls with little downtime and make levels VERY fast, if there is someone who wants to group with you, dont be stingy, do it, it will make killings go faster. Once you reach level 34, go get all of your spells.
This was GREAT advice. I'd been away from the game since POP and came back to play a necromancer, I totally forgot about the old world and all the good places there are to hunt. I went to the Paw Spires and the exp is wonderful, plus fear kiting here is great since the gnolls run AWAY from the spires and out into the fields.
Great advice.
Lvl 34 - 39
WHERE: Once I dinged lvl 34, I went to buy all my spells and noticed my Torbas Acid Blast sells in IceClad Ocean. I took a port from Nexus and ended up in Great Divide. I Gather Shadow and ran from Great Divide to Eastern Waste to IceClad Ocean and ended up at the spell vendor. I also noticed off in the distance, there were a bunch of Snow Cougars that conned blue and decided to setup camp here. From the campfire and facing towards the Snow Cougars, I ran maybe 50 yards and found a subtle spot on the ground where it seems to be at the highest point before it gradually slopes downwards… (and a Patrolling Gnome will usually stop right on top of this spot)this is where I casted a pet.
I've been doing this camp the last few days because I wanted the Torba spell as well and I have found one slight problem that isnt mentioned here. Disappearing mobs! Once you bring the cougar to your camp and cast fear (or a DoT) it will go under the world. You have to be careful when going out to the cougars after this. The cougar will usually come back with a friend or 2 or more. I had 4 coming after me tonight. Just FD and they will go after your pet. Sacrifice poor Joneker and just wait until they leave and make a new one. After that you shouldnt have too much trouble. I tried moving my camp out a little bit and the same thing would happen. /shrug
I'm going to find a new camp after tonight for these levels. Too much down time with FD and casting pets. I've had my pet killed about 5 times like this in the last 3 days. Great exp solo but not worth the time unless the bug is fixed.
If you want to do this camp, I suggest bringing a friend. A guidie mage and myself were chain pulling cougar after cougar with no fear kiting. Just let the pets beat on them and throw out a tap once in awhile to maintain HP. It was going fast and the exp was still excellent.
Just to address the post that highly encouraged players 55+ to obtain mounts: my understanding was that the primary benefit of a mount, besides the travel benefit for faster ones, is that they reduce or eliminate the "sit aggro" for green/trash mobs since you can med while on the mount. I was not aware that you gain any meditate bonuses just by sitting on the mount--I thought you still had to open your spellbook once the mount is summoned and even then you will med at the same rate as sitting on your behind. Also, although it's true you can have your spellbook open while riding around on a mount, I'm not sure if you still med at the same rate as if you were stationary.
Another benefit to mounts is that they are not affected by encumberance, so you could be greatly encumbered and still be able to move at the mount's speed when it is summoned.
As for the cost, I found that you can buy a horse for as little as 8200pp if your CHA is 110 or more. I used two opal steins (the ones w/25 CHA each) and a silver ruby veil to get one at that rate. The slowest horse (rope bridle) is only marginally faster than regular run speed, so don't expect these to replace SoW or other forms of travel enhancements. Still, the slowest horse is the best value for your pp. It's probably cheaper to buy SoW potions or get SoW-type buffs from other players than to bother getting chain bridles. And black or white colored bridles are more expensive, but have no other benefit other than their appearance.
Finally, although having a mount makes things nicely convenient and looks cool, there's no replacing using good strategy and your mana recovery spells to reduce downtime. Like previous posts have stated, know your spells!
One thing I noticed about SK Paw Spires is the pathing problems are still there. If you fear a mob at the wrong time, it warps to the opposite end of the zone, basically messing up any kind of rhythm you might have had.
I'm root baking mobs in Chardok while trying to get part of the VP key. Good xp for 57, and tremendous for lower levels. Occasionally someone else will wander in and we'll team up but nobody seems to stay for long. Easy to park or pull singly near the entrance and I have no problem baking two at once. If you have to zone, you'd better have FD or Harmshield memmed and ready to go. as you can't come in or go out the same way. You have to run the gauntlet. Try doing a CR and watch the cleric run the wrong way and realize "oops". No need to /q as if you lay there FD long enough you get a message "your enemies have forgotten your presence" after a few minutes. Thank goodness.
Yes in skeli form you can use a mount. Can not use a mount with lvl 60 Arch Lich, unless you nuke yourself with ignite bones line of spells. This is a pain( I resist myslef to easily) for the extra mana regen over Demi-Lich, I only tried this to see if I could use a mount while using Arch Lich...... :ph34r:
OK, I just got back into EQ and playing my necro last week after quite a long break (since just after Luclin was around). Thought I would give my hunting grounds so far (well those which I can remember). Can't remember exactly what I did before about level 16, but I'm sure would do that part in Paludal if I made a new char.
16(ish) - 24 I killed various mobs in the Overthere between the beach and Warsliks Wood zone (rhinos and tigers are best left alone, go for the succulants and cockatrices), not too bad xp, but paludal would probably be better xp these days.
24 - 30 I did Skulking Brutes (big orange monkey things) in Warsliks Wood near the zone to Dalnir, these are easy to solo. Started with the 2 spawn near Dalnirs, once I got used to reverse kiting these things, I moved onto the other spawn near the entrance. If you time this right you can take both spawns, although there will be a brute left over probably. (Note: these things can walk through the cave walls, and fall under the world if you are not careful, unless it has been fixed since)
30 - 34 Cougars in Iceclad, like in Umbrello's post, except I was pulling to just to the right of the docks (I seemed to get too many adds elsewhere).
34 - 44 I tried alot of zones, tried DSP, but I was so bored of levelling there (levelled 2 other chars there already, it got tedious), so I ended up grouped with a Shadownight, first off we went to Echo, everything there was camped. Then we tried Jaggedpine, in the basilisk caves near the Blackburrow zone. Not too sure how much xp I got grouped, but soloing after the SK logged I was getting 2% xp a kill here at 34. I stayed here until I dinged 44, although 25% of the basilisks turned light blue then, but I was still managing to get 1% xp for the most part at 44.
Also, the genitors (or whatever they're called) drop up to 6 basilisk eggs at a time, these sell pretty fast at 5-10pp EACH on the bazaar (atleast on Tunare they do). I've sold probably around 400-500 of these in the last few days, so you can farm these and level at the same time here. Lots of mid-level spell components dropping from these guys too.
I am now level 44, going to try the skellies in DL next, if that doesn't work out I'll head to GD and raise my Coldain and CoV faction on the frost giants.
1.) Buy a mount. It doesn't matter if you get an expensive one or the cheapest one; a lizard or a horse. I scrounged up the money and bought the cheapest horse for 10k. Just do it. When you're on it, you are ALWAYS medding, and that *greatly* enhances your ability to solo. You can also stay in lich/demilich form while on the mount, gaining the benefit of sitting regen, meditation, and lich/demilich all at the same time. When you're running, you're medding. When you're casting, you're medding. GET A MOUNT. It's hard to stress this too much.
You dont have any mana regen effect on a mount when you are moving or casting.
Plus with a 10k mount your running speed is about the same as the standard running speed without any enhancement.
Plus, major problem with a mount you need about 3-4 sec to reach your full speed and about same to stop your movement. So the 10k one is absolutely not advised for kiting. If you want to die a lot then use a 10k mount and go in planes do some kiting.
Only best mounts can help with their insane speed. But other mounts are not enough efficient to negate their disavantage.
A 10k mount is rarelly efficient for a necro who solo. Best use of a 10k Mount is when you play in a group to negate agro sitting or when you PL someone (more usefull with a druid or shaman).
Probably best use with a 10k mount is to stay front Pok bank to show people how rich, powerfull and idiot you are.
My 2 coppers on this point.
I disagree about the 10k horse, off course it has its flaws but if done properly you can kite efficiently in almost any exp spots 60 to 65 that have snarable mobs. I dont have experience in the elementals and higher but mostly in PON, POS, POV and HoH. All these regular necro exp spots are easy to kite with the 10 k horse, it is just a matter of timing and knowledge of the area. AH and ER foci are helpful but not even mandatory.
I will however agree that when things spices up a little bit (read : lots of successive snare resists ) I do click off the horsey and run at jboots speed for increased mobility and to allow more time for resnaring.
Bottom line, if you can learn to kite with the horse, you get more mana and hp regen over time which means more kills and less downtime. The only exception would be at lvl 60 to 64 if you dont have demi-lich, you should hunt with arch lich (no horse allowed !) because its so much better than lich.
And to rectify a previous statement, 10 k horse will move you at jboot/run3 speed not at regular run speed.
Good hunting !
Good hunting !
Wrong, go to test by yourself.
I made some tests :
First, i use /follow on my druid using her 10k drogmor to follow my necro using his Jboots. Result : After 20-30 sec of running my druid was far behind my necro and the /follow command break. 10k drogmor cannot follow Jboots. I would say about 20% slower than Jboots.
Second test, i stop my jboots effects on my necro and start to run at normal speed following my druid with her 10k drogmor. (no speed enchancement at all on my necro)
I was able to follow my druid running on her 10k drogmor during 2min before follow command break.
I would say 10k horse/drog is maybe 5%-10% faster than standard run not more.
I read recently hp regen on a mount is buged. You dont have the sitting hp regen bonus on a mount. Havent test it recently maybe this bug is fixed.
Recap :
You dont have any regen bonus (mana) when you are moving or casting on a mount.
Actually hp regen on a mount is bugged. Same as standing.
You need 2-3 sec to reach full speed.
You need 2-3 sec to stop before you can cast.
10k mount is 10% faster than standard run.
You cannot use Archlich.
Only real advantage i see with a 10k mount is no encumbrance and no aggro while sitting.
Great info there, Thank you !
So Drogmor is slower than jboots if you take the 2-3 sec slow start into account. My guess would be that at top speed its damn near. However I never timed or tested it so I will go with your conclusions on this one and retract my statement that 10 k mount = jboot.
I still find it more profitable manawise to kite with the mount. I did kite with and without the horse and my own conclusions are that you get more mana regen over time (lvl60-64) with the horse using Demi rather than running without it in Arch. I will admit that I dont have any tests or proofs to show you but its very obvious when I'm doing it as I have to sit and med between kills with arch but never have to using the mount+demi. Non stop killing is very nice !
Mount or not the choice is yours !
Good discussion here.
For what it's worth, hp regen on a mount is not bugged, it's that way intentionally. Mana regen on a mount was supposed to be "standing" regen, but something went wrong. Sony doesn't like it, but they figured the horse head in the way, slow start/stop, having to dismount to duck and interrupt, etc, seemed sufficient balances.
Don't ever expect Sony to provide a "fix" for mounts, though.
Haven't picked one up for Fizzy yet, but I've been considering doing so. Demi Lich/mount outdoors, Arch Lich indoors.
In my twenties up to level 30 I was hunting in Marus Seru with the white drum drogmor, it is the second best and when thing turned to bad (those pesky hoppers love to aggro madly) I had no problem at all to outdistance them. Was also faster then my shadowknight friend with his jboots, not much tho. I suggest getting the second best mount not the first, that way you don't have to click it off if the hunt become too spicy to your liking. They are not cheap but leather padding/spiderling silks etc.. can get you a nifty profit to save for one.
I'm currently trying the ideas posted on here for the 44-50 plaguebone camp in the lost valley in DL. I have a couple of things to add to the original post. While I was trying out what was suggested in the original guide, I found this way a little more effective.
First off, go to Echo Caverns necro guild and buy the spell Eternities Torment, this is a level 29 spell, it's an undead DOT, only does around 30 dmg a tick, but it works well and doesn't use much mana.
Following the the guide on here, I was finishing each fight with my pet between 65 - 75% health. After pulling my way, my pet was able to finish a fight with between 70 - 85% health.
What I did was park my pet about halfway between the 2 pyramids (that is the small pyramid on the south side of the spires, and the bigger one with the plaguebones). I was sat halfway up the small pyramid.
I would pull with Shackle of Spirit, send pet in as the mob got near to the pet, then hit it with Eternities Torment, let the pet spar with the skelly for a while until the mob got down to around 50%, then chain cast Ward Undead on it (I like this idea of getting Evo up like that, mine was also crap at this level).
I noticed there is no real need for Sense the Dead, if you watch your pet (if he is parked right in front of the entrance), wait for him to look to the right, you know there is a mob about to walk right past the entrance when he does. Target that mob, then hit it with Shackle of Spirit, even if it's gone out of view it will still single pull.
I've only needed to Pact of Shadow my pet after about every 6 or 7 pulls doing it this way (as opposed to the every 4 pulls method described by the original post).
I've found this is pretty easy xp, I was getting between 1 - 2% per kill at 44, now 'm getting a pretty consistant 1% per kill.
Notes:
Watch out for Baldrick in the pyramid to the east side, he is very red and very KOS to DE necros.
Don't get too close to the smaller pyramid to the west of the plaguebones, there is a skelly on top of there which you may not notice.
If you need a merchant here there is an Iksar behind the plaguebones pyramid called Klok F'tshai who seems to be indifferent to everyone.
I dunno if I would stay at the plaguebones in DL much past 45... at 45 I am getting a little over 1% per kill, but between sense the dead, dooming, asystole, /pet attack, panic the dead, sit... loot every 3 or 4 pulls as the skeles all end up at the same point... pretty boring as I can clear the spawn without any mana troubles.
I even run over and kill the balantine spawn as its ph is still blue, and then go kill the wandering skeleton which is also blue. And still I wait for pops. I could see myself staying at 46 but 47+ that would be mindnumbing.
It also matters if you want to do any LoY tailoring, since the required robe patterns are only available in your home town.
I also have a GREAT tip for necro's level 49, maybe 50: I saw a tip about undead ruins in BW in this thread and they are GREAT ! I can pull non-stop here because of the fast respawns, and i never run out of mana. I only need 3 spells for this, thats right, THREE spells ! (aside from pet haste, root to deal with ads and fd if you REALLY get into trouble.)
Firstly, the ruins are in burningwoods, aproximately at -1350, +2220. They are full of undead, and if you pull from the middle of the ruins you will never get any adds!
I only got one add on the first pull and then never again.
What you do: haste pet, cast spirit armor on pet and on yourself, cast lich on yourself. Then cast Shackle of spirit on the mob, send in pet (with taunt turned on) use Pact of shadow to heal your pet as needed, use Bond of death to tap hp.
When you are not casting, sit and med. By the time the mobs in front of you are dead, the mobs behind you have respawned and you can pull non stop.
(btw i just dinged 50 as im typing this, and a few mobs are LB now instead of DB, but there are plenty of db's left.)
EDIT: BTW: You will sometimes get wanders adding. just use Paralysing earth to root the add, finish current mob, kill add. Have some mana to spare for this. I have never had any resists on ANY of my spells i cast there.
<_< well I thought this guide was pretty good, but would recomend AGAINST doing the snow cougars in IceClad, heres why
1) You can't see them
2) If your pet fear kites at all near any other cougars they aggro (2 or more)
3) The cougars, run very fast
4) The sentries (guards) will not assist you if you get in trouble
5) Loosing a level here, drops you to 33, making this zone not usable anymore...
6) Don't count on Feign death to get you out of trouble, for some reason, it doesn't seem to work here against the cougars that add.....
If you are going to try and do the cougars at 34 I would say you need the following things
1) be twinked :ph34r:
2) be buffed
3) have SOW or some other fast run skill
Singletear
09-15-2004, 02:25 PM
You should always have SOW until you get run3. At about 70p for a 10 dose its expensive for low levels but will save you over and over again.
At 34 FD fails frequently. /sigh It does get better.
Nurga was revamped, and the originally described camp spot is now populated by much higher level goblins, but the entrance goblins are in the low to mid 30's and killable by a lvl 39-44 necro. However, for efficiency's sake, I wouldn't hunt there until at least 44.
I spent a fair amount of time in my mid 40's killing all the tier 1 goblins in the front part of Nurga. I was using a mid 50's druid to pull with snare, as well as providing resist buffs, regen, etc. so it was artificially efficient for me from a soloing standpoint, but the necro laid out all the damage and the killing can be done there solo at 44+. Once the first several goblins (including one roamer) are cleared, you can use that tunnel above the water for fear or aggro kiting.
A couple suggestions and queries
Up to 54 Tower of Frozen Shadows is good exp... lvl 30 or so for first 2 lvls, 39 for 3rd anf 4th, 44 for fifth up yo lvl 50ish, then 6th floor to lvl 54.
Up to 56 (maybe 58) go to katta and from graveyard ent pull the guards from the area outside GY into GY... I generally pulled with splurt and timed a dooming darkness for when they were a bit into the GY. Once snared I got between guard and GY exit and feared. Mob will run (limp) around the big building but never in my experience leave the GY... The popping undead and gargs will not add in to attack guard or you so you are free from adds. Pet kills as you just make sure fear doesn't end (or snare). Not bad exp
In OT, before you get kos on VS faction, kill sarnak berserkers for the war braids. I like the camp in little ruins almost straight out from book to pok and near NE corner of the zone. As soon as you get to amiable (by handing in braids 4 at a time unstacked to Capt Rottgrime the skellie commander inside the walls) give a jade to the undead foreman near wall by the boats being built. He gives you a Worker's Sledgemallet which is 2hb and in combat procs Gate: Overthere to on top of one of the boats under construction. Handing in the braids and jade have pretty nice exp at lvl 41 not sure of higher levels. The proc starts working at lvl 50 and is just nice to have a way to gate to a place right at a pok book... makes it nice to be able to gate without worrying about a long run back. For farming velium in tofs lvl 5 for example you can bind in the nearby gnoll village, go in, when loaded up sledgemallet your way to OT then book to pok, unload, break bricks and blocks to sm pieces, etc and then gate back to gnoll village and go up to farm more. Much more efficient and likely many other similar uses.
Question: Would a 56 necro outfitted as I am in magelo below do well soloing in Droga or not? Nurga is alll lb and green around track areas now and would like chardok faction so I can do ring quest and maybe other chardok quests.
Question: Has anyone tried soloing in Dragon Necropolis and if so how did it go for what level? I like undead mobs I can slow and let tank kill but am always looking for advice in other places.
Up to 56 (maybe 58) go to katta and from graveyard ent pull the guards from the area outside GY into GY...The popping undead and gargs will not add in to attack guard or you so you are free from adds.
I did Katta for many levels pre pop and still use it to PL. The undead that pop in the GY will add if you don't have enough faction. I don't recall what faction they are on, but killing guards gets you on their good side.
Katta also had numerious pathing bugs. Most of them have been fixed. It is still a good zone and not heavily camped anymore. There are 4 camps that I have used - bank/courtyard, GF zone, Graveyard, and TS zone. The GF zone seems to be the lower level guards. The bank has the highest and the most guards. At 58 with epic I could keep 9-10 of the 13 possible clear. Respawn is 12 min. Line up was FD, dooming (for epic resist or pull while pet still killing one), invoke fear, CoC, Vex, HS, Lich (never got demi), and root. Have to root-rot a bit to get the spawn broken, then it is non-stop fear kiting. IIRC, at 56 you can pretty much pull them right over the top of each other. The guards will assist if you fear kite in front of them (even on the level 61 pet).
Happy hunting
Here is how I did it. I just dinged 61 the other night. 9 days 9 hrs played.
I was sorta twinked, pretty much wearing the same, except for a few items pre 51/55.
Had mana regen 2-3 from items, HP regen 7 from items. Get temp or virt when available always.
Tank
1-4 FOB outside pit area. GET a DS from a mage or druid, and it takes about 10-15 mins
4-8 FOB inside pit.
8-16 Kurns tower. I think i used a DS potion until I hit 16. Kill lots of skellys. I still have 10 stacks of bone chips from those lvls.
16-20 PC Fiends
20-25 PC bandit camps
25-30 EC Needlites and aliens
Kite, agro/fear
30-34 or 39 Went to OT, fear kited everything. Collect braids for quest. You get about 3% per hand in.
34/39-44 Gunthark beach. Agro kite on the beach where that dwarf is. Use your new lvl 34 poision dot to agro.
44-49 EC other side than before. Tank or kite everything. 17+mobs
49-52 Dulak. Zone area, then area near the armory, fear and agro kite. Made about 1k per session. (you could do katta at 51 im sure, since you use splurt and ebolt)
53-59 KATTA, know matter how boring, stay in katta. Took me 5 hrs per lvl for 53-55. 56, 57, 58 took 5.5-6 hrs. GY from 53-55. Bank area from 56-68. Demi lich is key.
Tank/Pet tank
59 and 60. Velks. If you have EoT pet you can tank less for your pet, went really fast, maybe 7 hrs per lvl. Did entrance and SH. Constant pulls, and all were single pulls. A BL partner is nice too. I didn't get funeral pyre until 61 either.
61 Now im doing veksar, doesn't seem too bad tanking with slowed undead.
I have been working the revamped Nurga for some time, probably since the mid 40s.
The zone in area (down the waterfall) is great for the 40s. Kill the mob(s) in the pool at the bottom, then work your way in through the tunnel, clear out the next room. Depending on your personal stature and abilities you can try clearing the two side chambers to this room, but they're packed a bit tight. Screaming Terror works pretty well for splitting, though a lot of spawns won't aggro anyways.
There's a nice earring from a named spawn in the (southern?) side chamber - to the left as you're looking further into the zone.
Now, at 52, I've been working the exit hall. Just invis up, go over the first rails, go past the second (false) rails, and hang a right. Follow the tunnel that winds around back up to the zone entrance. Just before falling down the small waterfall there's a room with a few spawns of Goblin Stabbers. This is my new camp. 3 static spawns in that room, one that wanders from there back up the tunnel, and another static spawn in the back of the water-filled dead-end hallway. This is a good camp for steady exp and coin (all DB to 52) and the named spawn, Stabber Remy, has some nice drops: a silk mantle, with some CHA as his common drop, and a pair of slippers that i've been trying to get (and haven't, after dozens of Remy kills and many hours logged in this spot).
Often I will kill time waiting for Stabber Remy to pop by going back to the entrance area and killing there for Chardok faction. They're mostly LB with an occasional DB at this point, but still provide minor exp, coin and the Salts/Skins.
