View Full Version : Best level to attempt moneymaking
Another question, i see necros all the time rolling with gold chains and well the best gear. I was wondering when the best time to attempt to solo the following areas
Droga, the named around the entrance
Sebelis
And the vampire castle?
Thanks for your time

The higher you get in levels the more powerful your spells & pets become therefore the more trival lower level stuff becomes and you ability to exp and get good loot in higher zones increases

Frankly until your 60's you really shouldn't be worrying about money. Every level your ability to make money increases (at least in the 60's) exponentially. Trust me the amount of money you could make in a month at level 40, you could make in 1-2 days at 65. For example pretty much the best way to make money at that level is to kite hill giants, which gives about 1k every 3 hours. Now at 65 for 4 hours of camping in veksar (or a couple minutes depending on how lucky you are) you can get a 20k haste belt. Now lets do the math. 1k every 3 hours is 20k in 60 hours, or about a month of gameplay. And remember at 40 this is probably only getting you a level every 3-4 days, doing this. at 65 you just made in 4 hours what at level 40 would have taken you literally a month! I would just worry about getting experience. I myself am a 51 necro with equipment fit for a level 30, and despite the fact I might have less mana/hp as a regular person around my level, I can kite fine in dulak.
Of course you can make money WHILE exping (that doesn't mean hill giants.) from 44-49 I kited wyverns in CS (had to deal with some jackass druids, one nice one buffed me up and my pet for a time =-D) and probably made close to 15k--this is WHILE getting 1% exp a kill every minute or so, which means a bit less then 2 hours a level while getting very nice amount of cash. After 49 I tried HHK AMAZING exp/cash (especially if noone is camping the guards) but the exp was amazing. ag 51 it slowed down a bit but it is probably the best exp you can make till 55. if you want a nicer balance of money/exp you can go to dulak (that is where I am now) and camp the lady dirula ship. everything is single pullable at 51 (don't try to pet tank in aggro range tho since he is a lower level other mobs WILL aggro on him once attacking) and all I do is snare (dooming darkness or insidious), send pet, splurt and fear (doesn't matter if on the ship as long as they aren't in the relatively small social range it is fine they will run off the dock) and when fear runs off back off pet and let him run to you-- about the time he gets to you he will be in run mode and just pet tank till death. I make about .7 exp a kill here (well that is a bit more precise then "about" but it is still decent exp) and an average of a blue diamond a run through the boat. This is good exp and a good source of money (especially if the captain spawns his ring goes for around 3k on my server gotten 2 so far), and although probably not comparable to HHK exp (money is slightly better) this is probably your best source of exp/money until 55 (if you move up the boats even better but by that time you should be in the PoP).
As for money making itself you really do want to wait until the 60's. 63+ is probably the best (new pet and a couple nice dots) to go get money, from my knowledge veksar and sebilis (maybe velks but too much health on the spiders to fit my taste) are the best solo money you will find. So my friend don't even BOTHER with money until 60+ you will thank me when you loot one of those 20k haste belts off of a dead man's corpse :D .

Well, not everyone wants to race to the 60's. Seems the stronger, opinionated folks (and I don't mean that in a bad way) think getting to 65 is king. It's not, at least for everyone.
You ask when you can start making money. Well, as soon as animal pelts start dropping and you're getting spider webs you can start making money. When you start getting a collection of bonechips you can make money that way, also.
If you are patient, you can turn some of your playtime in the bazaar into quick money if you take the time to look for bagains. Buy tradeskill items low and boost the price a bit and you'll be making money eventually (there are some folks who are EXCEPTIONALLY good at this). Another option after getting money is banking for folks in those far away zones (don't know how good an option this is but you use to be able to make some good plat this way).
If you are just playing and don't care when you get to 65 then about every level you can hunt in areas where you can get tradeskill items and sell in the bazaar.
Also, I don't want to turn this into a 'level 65 or not' thread. I'm just opening options for those that want to take their time getting to 65.

My youngest son plays slow leveling..and I mean SLOW! He has been on eq at about the same time I did (1999), but his highest char is a 47 bard. In the same time I have leveled 3 charectors to 65 and have 2 others that are higher than him. He just loves to play around in Crushbone. I don't think he enjoys any high level play because of the stress of the game. I personally cannot identify with this kind of game play but if it suits him.. then just fine.
I will say this however... I enjoy being 65 allot more than I enjoyed the lower levels. I dont LIKE when a mob makes easy work of killing me. Now.. I might die.. but I will go down swinging and laying down ALLOT of heat in the meantime. I never liked when a guard tried to kill me just because I was a "worshipper" of innoruk.. well.. now.. they don't like me.. and I don't like them.. then I just kill them.
Level is > than all the aa's you put into your char.. it is > than all your gear... etc. when it comes to durability and dmg. If that is not enough to drive you to 65 then perhaps struggling along (relatively speaking) at <65 is what you should do. I don't think however that speaks for the majority of players.. It does however speak to a few.

lol doom. i like the part about if they dont like me, and i dont like them, I just kill em.... That is so true. Im sure there are others like myself that returned to someplace they had a bad run in at a lower level just to take vengence. For me it was at the docks in Butcherblock, damn dwarves..... they paid the price for their previous misjudgements :). I've had my way with a few denizens in freeport for the same reason.

NOTHING felt better then killing the sloot Gorenaire my first time /sniff....revenge is sooooooooo sweet. I drank a beer and logged happy as hell.
61 you could probably start farming veksar well, and level as you do it, but it'd definetly be "the long road" to 65, Nothing quite compares to the subtle advantages of being 65... Smaller agro radius, less adds, fewer spells hurt you, your spells are resisted less, you have better spells and more mana to cast them with, your pets rock, it's HILARIOUS to be pulling for a group in Ldon at level 65 and everyone KNOWS you pulled an sk, and you come back full life and they ask.."what no Harm Touch?" and you reply "heh, I resist that shit"
Enough can't be said about being 65 for hunting, farming, goofing off, even guild invites are better, you apply and your application isn't shitcanned before they get passed Necromancer, level 55, 3 aa no flags, seb key....thx don't pass go don't collect $200, just go exp and come back in 2months. The group invites are cool too, solro tower, gates, tactics, bot...and that's without lfg on.
