View Full Version : Efreeit in Atiiki

Ok, so I took some advice and headed to Atiiki to kill efreeti. I kited around the pyramids for awhile, but it seemed like more trouble than it was worth if you're just heading there for exp, with all the tashing, dispelling, and gating going on. Am I killing in the wrong spots? I tried every pyramid and I seemed to get more sorcerers/enthrallers (casters) than I did lords (melee) at every pyramid I went to. The exp seemed decent, and they were fairly easy kills, but it doesn't seem like they'd be worth the effort if I'm getting dispelled every kill. The tash I can deal with, but I even had a couple of them dispel my dots off of themselves which can be a pain if they drop snare right as they're near me.

I was kiting there earlier... didn't have much trouble except for dispelling my hp buffs and the tashing (makes medding horrible)
Didn't notice them dispelling my dots... maybe I was lucky, and when they gated it wasn't a big deal since I didn't get adds and they didn't gate again
I was kiting (as per Wildt's advice) between the left and middle pyramids in the north of the zone. Same thing as the greenhouse, they don't go up the hill, but they warp if they get to the pyramid.
Wasn't lucky with efreeti armor today /pout
Tash & diespell spells have 200 range, keep that in mind when you fight chanters djinni. Be out of range most of the time and they can't hit you with them.
Shitty Atiiki pathing makes it a bit harder tho. =P

Yeah, some of them do a 4 slot dispell too, so get those clicky buffs on!
As for tash though:

Haha, yeah, the pathing was what was making it tough to avoid tash. Warping mob+necro mid cast= no ooc for awhile, heh. I'll definitely be investing in a shammy alt soon. The gating wasn't too bad, though annoying, I could usually avoid it with los around the pyramids, and like you said, they never brought adds. The rare annoyances were the ones that somehow got gate off on me multiple times. Maybe I'll start kiting multiples so they don't try to run as easily? I was only doing one at a time to start with since I wanted to get the feel for it first.
I only had maybe one in ten dispell my snare, so it wasn't that big of a deal, but it was definitely annoying when they dispelled a fresh ashengate cast. Looks like it'll just take awhile for me to get the hang of it to make it worthwhile xp/hour.
Thanks for the replies.

Rooting also helps when you need a little space.

for gating, there are ways to avoid that too. If they can't see you, they won't gate, so after 25% health, get out of sight. Same exp as spiders in Icefall, and less camped. In the last 2 weeks I have easily gotten over 150 AA's with casual killing there, and also gotten my SHM box from 68 to 72, and 25+ AA's.
14% AA solo
8% AA grouped
1% reg xp grouped.

Shrak, bless you for that little tidbit about how to keep them from gating. I had one of those damn enthrallers gate 11 times before I finally burned him down, and that was with my ranger on /autofire too. Granted, that was an extreme case, but ever since then, even one gate gets me pissed as all hell, so I'll be using that little trick with quite a bit of glee. I can live with the tash and dispell, but those gates really get my goat.

Heh, win if you have a ranger with you he can cure tash...and yeah that's not a bad idea if you are having problems with gating. Another is kiting 2 at a time, and make sure the second is below 15% before the first dies.

There's also some cure poison pots... it works wonders... helped me A LOT (eh... someone posted it above lol)

Yeah Lash, I keep cure poison perma-memmed while in Atikii. That's just one of the many reasons I love my ranger/necro team.

Another way to prevent gating is to get them close enough to their spawn point around the time they start to try and gate. I typically kite them away with one round of dots, and kite them back to their spawn with a second to kill them. Aggro range is tiny in atiiki so adds should not be a problem.

I tried Atiki at lvl 72. Was after the Efreeti for the mask quest. That lasted all of 10 sec, they run fast enough after snare they killed me before any DoTs finished casting. I went back with a 75 druid. He pulled with his snare and died 2 of every 5 pulls. I ran out of EEs rezzing him. What is your technique in Atiki?

Not really sure what your problem could be. Once snared they are easily kited. Even if snared is resisted I have time to throw another snare cast out if I started at max distance. They move a little under run 3 unsnared. You can always fd if they resist and start over too.
The efreeti lords are pure melee. Simple kiting. Just stay away from them.
The efreeti sorcerer's are pretty easy to kite. Like most caster's, the stop and nuke a lot. Sometimes you have to keep an eye on you hp with these guys. Will also debuff snare on themselves or debuff you. Something to watch out for.
The efreeti enthrallers are also easily kited. It helps to stay at max distance because they cast Tash. I never get hit with that as long as I stay away from them. Also have been known to debuff themselves or you.
Other than that there are some pathing issues that you have to get used to if you want to avoid warping. Mostly related to elevation change. Not too hard to avoid though.

Also nice in this area is Rockstorm, who doesn't summon and dies pretty easily. Can drop a melee earring and a 90 mana augment, though I haven't seen the augment yet.

The pathing issues can be both bane and boon here. Basically under normal circumstances keep your 'Z' axis no higher than say, normal lev hight x2 and you will have NO problems. Any higher and they may begin pathing weird with possibilities of adds if you are not careful. Also, similar to the Shissar in Katta at the Greenhouse 'hill trick', you can run up the hill and get another chance to snare an unsnared efreeti or an add since they will path parallel to you or away from you. Don't stay up on the hill long as you cannot control how they path and may warp (I swear one did once, but am not positive).

I camped him after I finished the Zombie Quest for a couple of hours and he finally dropped the aug. I asked a ranger in the zone if he saw a named Phoboplasym up and he was. Somehow I managed to find him and stay alive...he dropped his aug too. I was happy =)

Vanlor I had the same thing happen to me. I just started camping the aug and noticed that if I lev to high that they do path parallel so I just kept dotting. Funny thing was, I kept dotting thinking ..this is pretty cool hes not going anywhere. Well then he disappeared, I found him pretty soon beating on my skull from behind.
Very nice camp, I still use the P3 snare here ( no trouble yet with it ) then grip of mori, dark nightmare, pyre of mori, chaos venom, s rot, blood of thule, pyro clickie from the elemental pants, then resnare. I will drop the occasional umbra orb rk2 because I am addicted to the orbs. Very easily to solo thus far, but I do med every 2-3 mobs but its worth it.

The Efreetis are Definitely not more trouble than they are worth. Just have clicky buffs up to deal with the dispelling if you cant avoid them, and have distillate of antidote pots to cure tash before med breaks. If you use your mana efficiently (and there isnt a lot of competition for mobs haha), you can go through 18-24 mobs in 30 mins (easiest for me to think of it in 1/2 hour due to exp lesson), and pick up 5-and-a-fraction AA's.

As, they love to despell, and gate they are definately worth the trouble. I dont worry if they despell,/shrug as I usually just have my own buffs on me anyways. The only part I hate is pathing/gating. Other than that its not too bad.
If efreetie get too much, can always do the frenzied gorillas and the other mobs uptop of that hill.

its been said already but the key to making these easy for you.
1. If it's a caster it can gate, get out of line of site(LoS) when the mob drops below 20%. After I cast all dot's i generally run a bit and get out of los and it dies before it even comes to me.
2. Cure Poison potions. You don't want tash on you because it stops you from hitting rest state when you eventually run oom. Plus those nukes add up.
3. Put some clickies or trash buffs if you have no clickies up top because the casters WILL dispell you. Enchanters will strip you. If you lose your self buffs its a good idea to rebuff them.
4. Be careful with the pathing. You'll get a feel for it but the general idea is to not change elevation. Once and awhile some bullshit will happen when it pops on top of you. They don't hit hard, but you can't tank em, just run away and learn from the experience. Remember what you just did and where you were and try not to do it again.
This is a great place to go to without having to worry about it being camped because the zone is literally full of things to kite and kill. Plus you can do the pet illusion quest, camp the augs, maybe even gear upgrades. I like my illusion for my pet because besides raiding I don't usually have the need to shrink my pet with it, plus weapons show up and its neat. =P
