Alternate way of increasing research skill

i just stumbled over the following while browsing:

have any of you tried out if ykesha swatch making is a real alternative for increasing the research skill ? havent heard about it anywhere else.

uses up only one word and seems to produce something that can be used in a tradeskill later on.

Does any1 have a link for those robe recipes where one can use the swatches ?

The swatches are used in more than one tradeskill, also available on the EQ trader's site, for example:

Tinkering Robes (http://www.eqtraders.com/recipes/recipe_page.php?article=143&rsa=Tailoring&rc=GNM&sb=item&menustr=080040045080)

Tailored items called 'Robe of ...' (http://www.eqtraders.com/recipes/recipe_quicklist.php?rsa=Tailoring&menustr=080110900000) - Race will determine which robes the tailor can make.

Also, if you click on the swatch link you should then see another link to click on - 'Find recipes that use this item'... that will show you what tradeskill uses that particular swatch.

I haven't done enough of these to know if the skill up rate is any different than normal research (I've never gotten a skill up at alll on the few I've done) but a lot of them use the rarer words or research pieces so even though they only use one, you still might end up finding it easier to do spell research, just depends on what is available to you.

Looking at the link you provided, making these swatches will bring your research skill up.
Now lets burn this house down; with the cost of parchments, quills and the words. It's going to get expensive real quick. Multiple plat per combine, rain or shine. If it shines, I'd hire a 250 tailor to do final combine on robe and sell it in Bazaar for appropriate money....
If it Fails and it will quite often, Those plats are gone and Skill ups may not be what you expect.
For skill ups there are other Alternatives that will net you XP, Plat and that Little Wood elf you have your eye on..
Concordance of research quest, I found this one on Casters realm.com---- Boring.
Buying words in high keep and Combining them for skill ups, I was doing Invoke death, Every other combine was a skill up......
Last but not least, My favorite; When you lvl and get those 5 training points, I always put those into my research skill. Xp, (to get that lvl and 5 more points). Plat (because you were killing good plat mobs) and that wood elf honey just took off, Hey your a Necro after all. Don't Expect that one.....
