Has anyone seen a strong standing guild create or mentor another low end guild?

High end Parent guild with a lvl 55 req to join starts a low end guild to allow alts and lower level players to join.

Low end guild would be like a training guild somewhat and at the same time be able to weed out bad players before they join the parent guild. This, at least to me, seems like it would alleviate some of the coming and going of members in the Parent guild and also keep the turnover rate, if any, low.

The low end guild would have the benefit of being able to ask the Parent guild for help with setting up low end raids or such a couple times a month or so. The Parent guild members would get a break in the normal exp grind, if they wanted, by helping the lower one.

I may get flamed for this but had to ask…as my guild my start a offshot and allow lower members in!

There was a guild on DRO that lasted for few years actually
Isomnia reborne was the parent guild and there sub guild was disciples of insomnia

I did guild sites for each one they did pretty good but as most things in life it came to an end probably almost 8 months now but they lasted for a long time

I'm leader of a feeder guild on Sullon Zek - our req is minimum level 30, and most of our members move on to the parent guild when they are level 55 (this is a lower req for most classes to apply to the parent guild than if they came from somewhere else).

The major problem with this is communication - we are having major communication issues now.

While there are some real advantages to this set up, you have to be willing to go the distance to get them. There are a lot of issues you'll need to be aware of and work out first, for example - who is going to weed out the players, how are you going to contact each other, how do players in the feeder guild and parent guild get to know each other, how much time and resources are you going to put into teaching and training the lower guild members, who will be officers in the lower guild (if they are alts of the parent guild you get more control and a better feel for the lower guild, but you will also struggle to have people online enough and at the right times for administrative work, and they might not know the members as well as officers who are not alts, etc.) who will organize lower raids, if someone is not suited to the parent guild but fits into the feeder guild just fine, what do you do with them, do you force members to move up to the parent guild, do you have people move up on a set level or on an evaluation of when they are ready, who and how would they be evaluated, do the high level people in the lower guild raid the with parent guild, will all your members support the feeder guild (if they don't then how will the feeder guild members feel when they try to contact a parent guild member for advice or help and don't get it?) will the leadership continuously rotate from person to person as players level up and move to the parent guild, do people playing on their alts want to play in a similar or different environment to the parent guild... I could go on and on.

Probably you would only ever come across a small percentage of these issues, but it does give you an idea of some of the things you have to consider before taking the plunge.

I was not there at the creation of the feeder guild I now lead, but apart from the communication problems we are now having (whatever you do, remember that calling the leader of your feeder guild a bitch when she brings to your attention complaints she hears in the feeder guild is not solving any problems) mostly the system works very well for us, is a big help in recruitment and does give people some opportunities to pick up some raiding knowledge before they apply to the parent guild, as well as alts a break and a chance to do something in a different environment than the parent guild.

maybe joint channels could help aryse, mando for feeder guild members, optional for parent guild members, so they don't get bombarded with questions when they don't want to be?

Ach, don't even go there about the channel. Had one for feeder guild members who were prospecting with the parent guild. People got disillusioned with the channel pretty fast, since nobody talked in it, couldn't get groups in it, parent guild wouldn't join and then started claiming there was a spy in channel and refused to announce any raids to propsects there... that was before they started the 'no prospect' raids - which is brilliant since propsects must raid with them several times to be eligible to be tagged. *sigh* Not to mention parent guild was lying about announcing stuff there and didn't stop until I kept myself and trader logged into channel all the time and parsed my log files so I had proof. Channel alone was just not the answer for us.
