Gates of Discord is mainly geared toward level 60+ guild encounters. However there is the Natimbi zone which has become a favorite solo hunting ground of my level 55 (now 58) necro.

Not only is the experience great, but the loot and quest drops here are excellent.

I aggro kite most mobs in this zone, as it gives me better control over the mobs path than fear kiting. Dooming darkness, splurt, BoD, then send you untauned pet when the mobs are around 95%. You should keep aggro this way. They hit hard and run fast, but have low hitpoints.

I would stick with the turtles, potameids, reef crustactions, and restless souls. The other mobs are either nasty casters or run fast as sow. I also use dooming darkness to snare as its a faster cast time and lasts just as long as Cascading. The mobs have high mr, so you may have to try darkness several times. I used splurt and ignight blood as they land almost all the time. Recast darkness when the mob is at 50%. Aggro kiting is much safer, unless you learn fear routes mobs take at certain spots.

Since hunting there, I have gotten a Regen 3 shield, a flowing thought 1 neckpiece, an Aura Of Battle neckpiece, 3 range III veils, and numerous other goodies.

You can solo the undead soul camp, and also keep the reef crustations spawns in the river clear. This will give you a chance for 2 named mobs to pop, both of which drop hp/mana gem augments. (perfect on PvP server).

The best item I obtained via a quest was the Shield of Coastal Purity w/regen 3. You need a siren heart, fin, and tounge from the potameids. The potameids are out at sea, but I will tell you how I pulled them without a tracker.

Straight across the river from the magus camp at the bottom of the hill is where I pulled the potameids to. There is a large rock along the shorline over that hill you can pull to and use as a reference.

Keep DMF fresh, and head Southwest from the rock. I jammed autotarget until I got some sea mobs targeted. Once targeted, you can levitate at a certain spot right at top of of water and look down to see everything clearly.

Look around and keep autotargeting till you see a potameid. Pull with splurt and stay on top of water. Head back to the rock (NEast) and pull the potameid over the hill to your camp.

Make sure you dont outrun it, as you will move faster above water than it can swim (with sow/jboots). Keep casting a quick spell while running to make sure it is still in range.

It took me about a week of off and on hunting but I finally got it. Great experience and a nice item with regen. Works great paired with a Z Heart for necros.

Once you find the general area of the sirens, mark your ingame map so you can return there. The mobs are not static, but with the method above you should be able to find them without a tracker.

What I like best about this zone is I get experience and a shot and some good loot at the same time. Some of these items take some time to obtain, but when you are getting great exp at the same time it makes it that much better.

Happy hunting!

The stonemites are hard to see against the ground so be careful. I play in 3rd person so I always pan around to make sure I dont get any adds on pulls.

Stick with Dooming Darkness, and recast it on the mob at when its at 50%. With a spell haste item, its faster cast and lower mana cost will help alot when they resist. You will get rocked trying to get cascading darkness off on a mob bearing down on you.

Best spots to kite without adds are right across the river from the magus at the bottom of the hill (stay away from the platform at the top), or at the other end of the island in front of the restless souls.

Your best darkness until 64 is dooming darkness, the rest are too slow and to much mana, for WAY to little return.

I killed the undead there for a bit and got the quest there done, it gave me a hammer I couldn't use, I tried to give it back, and the npc didn't take it and give me an alternate reward, grats destroy button. The noc's and mobs near qinimi are ok to root rot, I don't know about kiting unless you can clear the wanderers and play looking at an alarm clock...it seems bad for adds there, qinimi is ok to solo, but it was more work then fun imo. Riwwi was a nice little challenge for a minute and then once I discovered there was ample room to kite...it got boring. For now if I want to solo in Gates it's yxxta, or grabbing a sewer/vexd instance and playing around..with no intent to win. Occasionally I'll goof around in kodtaz, but randomly being summoned gets old fast... Barindu and ferubi are hell holes...

I ventured out to Natimbi last night... nice post btw

It definitely has it's ups and downs... for me, it was a great change of pace to kill mobs that have less than 10k hit points. But, what got annoying really quick was the Darkness resists and Root resists. They hit hard, but you can get 3 solid Darkness tries out of a tanking Rogue Pet... however, a 4 darkness / 2 root resist on a dog was the last straw :P

It was a nice change of pace and I'm really interested in the quests, but as far as my first experience there I got pretty annoyed. I'm sure the 59 pet will save me the resist trouble out there... only 2.5 yellow to go (

Also, a quick heads up... Dooming Darkness is a 59% snare. With the speed of these mobs to begin with, you're going to want a SoW on you. Innate Run3 will not outrun an unsnared mob, and even snared they're on top of you before you get much of a chance to med at all... also, when you fear/kite they can get pretty far with their speed. Take them down by the water and they'll hug the shore, otherwise they'll run straight into some adds. (Devouring and Embracing are 75%)

For the items mentioned, it sounds like the Risk/Reward factor are pretty much on target...

On the main island, the fleshrippers, stonemites, and fierce cragwalkers (a named crag sometimes dropping the spell haste III veil) seem to have very high resists. I would only hunt the reef crustacions, restless souls, and turpeta turtles, all of which have a named version. These can all be outrun unsnared with jboots, long enough to get your dooming darkness off.

With the other mobs you are definatly risking your life more as they are fast with high resists.

I would seriously invest in an affliction haste item. I picked up a ceramic skull of decay and it shaves of 2 seconds on ebolts cast time. Dooming darkness now casts at 2.7 seconds instead of 4.

If Tumio, the named restless soul pops, keep in mind she cant be snared. I kited her back and forth with splurt , ignight blood and a deflux on her constantly as you must have a quick casting spell or she is gonna hit you.

Also keep the reefs clear in small river area around the soul camp. The name Vimidon spawns there, sometimes dropping the 20 mana aug.

Dont let you pet aggro anything. It fight toe to toe its dead.

As you can see, you can work these spawn cycles and have a shot at 3 named popping at some point.

I kept killing Tumio when ever she spawned and all I get to drops is a BER book and a War/Rog ring.... :(
I just pulled her to the water, then let my pet take agro and kill her.

Think I'll check under the water next time....

And as for the Noc's. I just fear kite 'em.

There are TONS of mobs in the water, maybe more in the water then on the island...The squids hit fast although not very, but it's difficult to channel through them in water. The crustacians are the only mobs in the water (normally, unless people are training/dying) that will follow you out of the water. There is a named crustacian that can pop from any static spawn. A focused pyro, bot, and Embracing darkness kills a crustacian...so they're very little hps.
