State of research?

So what is happening in the world of research? At a brief glance, I see a lot of new ways to skill up, but I don't see a lot of higher end use.

Is there a new max level or is it still 300? I left with 272 I think... I have 2-3 banks full of parchments/subcombines but every skill up grind seemed to be multiple hours of subcombines.

Most of the old spell research is gone now, words/runes etc are vendor loot. There's not too much to do with spell research though.

They totally removed those recipes? Hehe well I guess that will clear at least some bank space, have an alt dedicated to housing words/runes.

Yes. Most all runes/words/Bs are are vendor trash. They implemented a systematic spell research system that was built from the Depths model. Quills, Inks, parchments. They didn't necessarily remove the ability to research any spells .. just diabled the old recipes.

There is a new method to skill up using various binding powders. Binding powders are fairly common and you don't have to "waste" all the much sought after parchments. http://mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/showthread.php?t=30920 is what I used to get fomr 160-ish (in November) to 300 in a couple few months (April). Between collecting and buying various binding powders up in the bazaar for normally less than 100pp

That's good news... I am not sure how many hundreds of parchments I tore through trying to get to 272 2 years ago :p I used to buy every parchment that showed up in the bazaar including having a buyer up.

There are 4 NPC's by the small bank that have literally everything you need on them.

I saw that, it is great. I had an alt sitting in CC just to buy mats just to pass them through the shared bank slots.
