I have heard reference to "pet pulling" in EQ1, and the ability to seperate mobs. Can anyone give me a run down on how this works, or a good reference to read?
Thanks!

Pet pulling referred to using a pet that was a lot lower level than the mobs you were pulling. Basically, you summon the pet and make him attack the mob you want to separate from a bunch of other mobs. That mob then just follows your pet back as you spam /pet back or /pet hold.
This would result in the ability to pull a single target without aggroing other mobs in its aggro radius.
Alas, I'm pretty sure it has been nerfed... I dont think you can do it anymore =/

Yes, that particular method of single pet pulling has been nerfed since TSS launch. You can still use it to pull a group of mobs out of a tight area so you can tag and split, just plan on sacrificing the pet if you don't have pet fd.

usually you can use this in conjunction with snare and feign to still get singles.. especially with reduced "forget" time on mobs nowadays.

I've been trying to master the art of "Root Pulling" thanks to the reduced forgotten timers now...
Find a pair of Mobs, root a Mob you DON'T want (or either one if they are the same) and run to a safe area. Root the 2nd, FD and wait for the forgotten message from the first. Snare, DoT, kill....
Or so it's supposed to go, anyway...

YOu can also just wait for the first root to wear off. If you are fd, wait a tick and the mob will auto reset. Or that used to be the behavior :p

In theory pet pulling can still work but the pet now takes the level of the pet owner so the concept of summoning a lowbie pet is no longer needed. I supose you could in theory get a low level necro to tag along to pet pull. LOL
It could work but why...

why use root? when you are FD a snared mob wont move anyway. so just snare the one you do want... root the one you dont want(if you really have to...) pull him away from the agro range of the spawn point, FD wait for other mob to reset.. .WABAM free single mob.

Generally I use root when one mob is a named that is immune to snare etc and then other I just don't want to bother killing first. :)

AFAIK, Immune to Changes in Run Speed also means immune to root.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong. You are correct.
Ask me how I know...

right, I root the mob that I don't wnat to kill thus separating it from the named (who runs at me) without having to kill it first. Generally works like a charm since root tends to break fairly quickly.

Either way, I pull the bears to the other side of the valley to the wall and kite up alongside the wolves till the Mob dies. Been fairly lucky...

I either use snare to split or scent to pull if I need them to come in fast. Proxi pulling also works. I dont have pet FD but sometimes I'll use an EYE to target the mob around the corner and send in the pet then back him off and run to group. Helpful for geting mobs on near or behind doors especially if you know the door is going to close and the mob will nail you.
I cast a dot from a distance and let all the mobs close alittle bit, hit my target with encroaching darkness, FD and wait for the adds to start walking back home then send pet pop up and wax dat azz. Just getting decent at playing tho so theres prolly a better way.
New member by the by...Thanks for all the advice and stuff. I'd still be tap tanking green mobs and blowing what little AA's I have on stupid junk if it wasnt for you guys.

There is a thread in the subscribers section that is highly detailed about pulling and includes some amazing tricks most folks don't know.
Just FYI.
Welcome to Necrotalk :)

I love using the no damage AA cause once they forget about you, you can stand and the mob won't move back to it's spawn, but it won't move towards you either until you hit it again with something.
