Haven't seen anyone mention pet discipline here. Does anyone bother with it? Strikes me as useful to pull the pet out when he gets entangled with a rooted mob and to stop him from embarrassing me in a raid.

Pet discipline is essensial and like 90% of raiding guilds consider it a requirment. It keeps your pet from running after the mob and wiping the raid if the mob has an AE that cast on incoming.
Also great for pulling sometimes also. Can send pet into a room full of mobs and then hit pet hold and it will come back to you while the mob follows it beating on it. I am not sure if this is exploit or not but if you use a lower level pet(sk's do this alot) and send pet into a room where you normally get 3+ a pull, then hit pet hold, the pet will come back with just 1 mob. Seen alot of SK's do this LDoN's.
Pet hold is also great for FD pulling cuz sometime you do get hit before you get FD off, and with pet hold your pet will not attack the mob's that attacked you, thus saving your pet for needlessly dieing.

It's hard to discuss "no-brainers" pet hold is in that category.

I never claimed to have a brain ;)

It's often omitted from the recommendations given in this forum and I wondered why.

I, for one, simply spam back off, and then blame it on a mage.

:D

Seriously, though -- Yes, Pet Discipline is worth the 6 AAs. Pet-parking a mob in an LDoN with a Summoner's Boon-focused pet is a breeze, when he mitigates and out-regenerates their swings, due to the 'I won't fight back, even if you whack me' command that you can nab with Pet Discipline.

Tons of fun. :)

Thanks Demetrii.

I guess this is my next AA sorted out then )

Mid to High end guilds will not even consider you if you do not have pet discipline. Or, if you do not have it (say you only have the "Baron/Baroness" title, they will NOT let you make a pet on a raid period.

Here is why. Suppose your in a tight spot and your raid is buffing up and an AE goes off from a nearby mob.... there goes Jababer to attack said mob and you are spamming your back off command to no avail. He dies and the mob comes straight for you. The raid is derailed and you are to blame.

Plus it is just a good tool for pulling. I feel it should be the FIRST class type AA you should invest in if you are in a raiding guild. If you are a solo artist, then I guess use your own judgement.

Run3, Regen3, SCM3, Pet Discipline

That's my aa progression list.

Hey, thats new news to me...have you guys tried this, and does it work ? Pulling Thought Horrors in The Deep is the first thing that comes to mind..but they are packed so tight together, I can't imagine sending in one lowly pet and not having them all jump on him at once....buy hey, I'll try anything once :)

This is something that just may have been nerfed. Didn't work at all for me the other night, it's usually very reliable.

This definately works. They changed the way pets generate aggro a while back. If your pet doesn't attack first, the mob essentially doesn't see it if your FD.
I pull LDoN all the time with this. Go to SSRA basement and try it out, or The Deep like you say. I'd like to add, this should not be considered an exploit, because it is doing damage to your pet. It is not like the mob blindly follows it back to you and just stands there.
