    Easily attainable gear:

If factioning didn't take enough of your time, look into the Jonas Dagmire's Skeletal Hand aug quest and the Spatial Temporal Oculus face aug.

    Soloable upgrades
Defiant Silk - Everything you need to get caught up in gear
    Combine Empire Merchants Faction Armor
    Glossy Silk Armor (attuneable)
Cultural Armor - examples: affordable armor and augments, more expensive armor and augments
    Hot Zone Augments

    Tribute farming:

While not much to say, as older content gets used less and less good tribute items are no longer in great supply in the bazaar. Some options to farm for quick and easy tribute are the following:

    1. Veksar, mix of undead and live mobs, lots of named.
    2. Temple of Droga, lots of named, easy to invis to PH's and then move on to next PH.

Both with familiarity of the zones could expect 50-100k an hour in tribute items.

    XP spots, hot zones:

Lvl 65 - Vxed, NC Murkgliders (higher level), DoN Creator Missions
    Lvl 70 - 69.1, other(?)
Lvl 75 - Icefall Bears, Spiders, Wolves. Direwind Roots. Katta's Snakes. Loping Plain's Crocs.
Lvl 77 - Loping Plain Crocs (still yellow to you)

    Guild Hall/Guild Lobby Functionality:
The Guild Lobby and Guild Hall were introduced off of the Plane of Knowledge sometime back.

The Guild Hall is a private instance for your guild. It holds a guild bank, an augment pool, tradeskill devices, and a guild portal. The portal is activated by purchasing a portal token from a vendor for a given zone (a fair spread of zones), give the token back to the vendor and the guild portal is set. Enter the portal and it will ask you if you want to port to the given zone. I believe the portal is set until either the instance is reset (no one in the guild hall for 15 minutes) so can be used by a large number of the guild.

The Guild Lobby is a public zone. You can purchase a Soulstone that corresponds to your level. Give that Soulstone to a Summoner and the summoner will summon your corpse to you. Since this zone also is a high concentration of people afk or rezzing, it is a good place to grab a rez and buffs.

New & Returning Player General Info

Many returning or new necromancers tend ask the following questions:

          Which spells are absolutely must-have?
Which spells aren't worth the effort to get due to future upgrade?

The ultimate answer always is unique to how you play the game. This includes, but is not limited to-
          • How fast you intend to level
          • How far you intend to level
          • How much time do you intend to spend doing AA before getting max level?
          • Do you have enough friends/guildies able to do old group tasks, quest arcs and faction for you, quickly?

The important thing to consider, is spells get upgraded a lot faster than our "Spells we use" do. However, DoTs are unique in that we stack them instead of replace them. We tend to use our best spells, regardless of their age or level, as long as they remain effective. Classes that use "instant" spells, or Nukes, never have use for a spell that has since been upgraded, ever.

Instead of trying to answer every possible scenario, here is a quick-look spreadsheet on spells. Depending on your level, you can see the spells that do the most damage from what is available. If you are curious how long Corath Venom will make your top-8 DPS list, check it out. If you wonder if grinding Combine Merchant faction in Katta for Kedgefish Venom rk2, check it out.

Since our primary role is to do damage, these lists are sorted by DPS top-to-bottom. Non-DPS spells such as nukes & darkness were not included on purpose.

All spells in the below charts are Rank II if they are a ranked spell. No rank I or III spells are shown.

          Up to level 70

          Up to level 75

          Up to level 80

          Up to level 85

Always keep in mind that your dynamic scenario / needs / style will determine the actual spells you will want. If you are level 80 and hunting in an area with total fire immunity, your spell needs change dramatically, for example.

Okay, now that you have seen the top DPS spells available to you by level range...which ones are really worth the effort?

          Methods of Obtaining Spells.
For starters, do not expect some grand rule-of-thumb or common theme regarding obtaining spells, or you will go mad. Some spells that are highly desirable are readily available while others require an obscene amount of work and/or luck to obtain.

The only common guidelines you can roughly expect:
          • Vended spells will be no-trade. This applies to those purchased after reaching some minimum faction level, those purchased after reaching some minimum progression level and those purchased with an alternate currency.
          • Dropped spells will be tradable.

Hand-in/Turn-in Some named mobs in older (pre-70) content drop various runes, parchments & such that you turn into a NPC. For runes, the NPC returns you a spell based on the level of the rune, and in a specific order. If, for example, you have 4 level xx spells, you will need to turn in 4 level xx runes to get all 4. For parchments (Planes of Power only) the spell you get when you turn in a parchment is entirely random; you can turn in a hundred specific parchments hoping for a specific spell and there is a chance you will not get it.

          Quest/Task Reward
Some spells level 70 and below are earned only by completing specific group tasks, and entire series of task arcs. Prophecy of Ro and Depths of Darkhollow are some examples of expansions with task-based spell rewards. These missions don't "scale in difficulty" based on player level, so become trivial very quickly if you are beyond the intended level or have some assistance.

Research: Currently, the maximum level of spell/tome that can be researched is 75, with the expected format to always remain -10 levels from current playermax. However, some spells/tomes are still excluded from research, specifically those from the The Burried Sea expansion which are locked behind faction & mission currency. This is the fastest, easiest way to obtain spells! If you are not a researcher, do /who all on your server and find some INT casters that have a high research and willing to make some spells. Costs can be high because the dropped components can be rare - and it works in reverse order. The lower level spell, the lower level dropped page/velium/parchment/paper is used - and not too many people are killing level 68-70 mobs today so that drives the prices up. Be sure to check out the Master Research post maintained by Drazzminius to see what necro's on your server do research!

Also of note: Ngreth has promised that TBS spells up to 75 will become researchable with the Underfoot expansion! This will make all 75 & under spells researchable.

Factioning for spells. From TBS onwards factioning became the primary method behind specific class spells & series. Typically you will have to repeat tasks, quests and/or missions to either obtain the faction and/or the currency to purchase the spells from specific vendors/suppliers. The level of faction & amount of time required varies from expansion to expansion and in some cases varies from spell to spell as the vendor/faction changes. Be sure to check out the quest library section for details, and Raspers!.

Dropped Spells. Rank 2 spells from TSS expansion are all dropped from level-appropriate mobs in the expansion zones. Some rank 1 spells in the SoF & SoD expansions are dropped. Some rank 2 spells in SoF and SoD are dropped, but some dev-decided core spells are locked behind faction.

Vended Spells. Most Rank 1 spells from the TSS and SoF expansions are purchasable for platinum from basic vendors and available without any factioning. The great exclusion being TBS spells are all faction locked & alternate currency purchased. A few dev-decided core rank-1 spells are dropped only, and rare.

Progression Spells. Some rank 1 and rank 2 spells are locked behind progression, such as can be found on Zeb in various versions of the Void in the SoD expansion. The higher in progression you are has no relation to the value of the spell, or rank made available.
