Professor James Duane lectures on the really important fact that any statements you make to the police can *NEVER* help you. As your Miranda warning tells you "everything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law", but as you may not know they can never be used *for* you.
He gives really simple examples of how you can convict yourself inadvertently. That no matter what you say, how innocent you are and even if you say nothing beyond simple denials they can and will use it against you in court. Use the Fifth Amendment. Never say ANYTHING to the police.
The Innocence Project (which frees convicted people based on DNA and other scientific methods) states that 25% of the people that they released were convicted on statements they made to the police.
James Duane explains why innocent people should never talk to the police.

"Everything he said was true. Ok. And it was right, and it was correct."
Yeah, this is ~45 minutes of watching (or listening, I left it minimized) but it's entertaining and an important civics lesson.

The video below is of Criminal Defense Attorney and Prof. James Duane. He explains (in a very entertaining way) why innocent people should never talk to the police. He speaks fast, so listen closely and listen to it all. The lecture is about 27 minutes long but worth every minute. After Prof. Duane speaks, he is followed by officer George Bruch from the Virginia Beach police department. Bruch has been an investigator (and interrogator) for approx. 28 years, he concurs with the advice that innocent people should never talk to the police.
