I've heard people say that the first thing pets do once they get close enough to be in melee range is taunt, so you can time /pet hold for it. But every single time when I pet pull, my pet will always taunt when he's still standing next to me. The mob acts like it didn't even notice. That is to say, the mob doesn't come running and my pet still has to get in at least one round of melee before the mob aggros.

I always turn pet taunt off (not sure if it matters)

Also, has anyone noticed that when using the 48 pet for pulling, if he gets stunned, he'll turn around to attack, even if he's on /pet hold already? Every single time in Creator, when I pet pull the defuncts, if he gets stunned on the run back, he'll turn around and start attacking again. I've taken to spamming my /pet hold, /pet back off hotkey now, which defeats the purporse of why I purchased the damn AA in the first place!

When you /pet back off a sitting pet, it sits where it was backed off.
But there are two main ways I pet pull, both work equally well (at least on shiknar).
I always turn pet taunt off (not sure if it matters)
1) Feign death (make sure it works), then send the pet in, and back it off. the mob will come solo even through all of his friends, without aggroing.
2) Invis, send pet in and back it off.
method 1 works on see invis mobs (like fire giants in solb... don't ask), and i havn't tried method 2 on see invis mobs.

felicite has it correct...
say that you are pulling in whatever mission it is that has the hive instance and you have to turn an item in to a npc in one of the towers. when after you have killed/kited the mobs around the campfire and cleared a path to zone out, you then work on clearing the tower where the turn in mob is.
he has a couple of stalkers that need to be pulled. it is best to /guard your pet at the bottom of the stairs run outside and FD (just in case of warp). You should have already targeted the mob closest to the stairs.... so now you send in your pet, you hit /pet follow me, then use /pet hold once you see damage (i dont have any of the pet invuln shields).
your pet comes flying back to you along with a few of the mobs. once they come out of the door to the tower you stand up and get ready to FD. you time it right and have your tank ready to tag.....and hopefully you have a successful FD... if not you get to run around a bit .
Oh... and dont forget... if you dont have pet feign level 3, then just tell your pet to go away after it comes through the door... so that the mobs come after you .... if they stop then snare one and do the reverse snare aggro thingie i talked about on this thread
by the way... I use a hotkey set up in this manner... for my pet hold button
/pet back off
/pause 2
/pet hold
and when i have my pet /guarding such as for the sentries in the courtyard doing a creator mission.... my lvl 48 pet runs back... dont know why but he/she does.
ruk

not sure if it was necessary, but i did it to be sure the pet was always in follow mode when needed
i never use guard and almost never use sit, so it's not too much of an issue

OK, sorry, I see what you mean now. I usually pull from a distance, without invis--I FD first, then send pet over to the mob, then pull him back to me. In my case, yeah, he just comes hopping right on back, sans mob, if I were to /pet follow before he ever got there. I guess I just never thought to take my pet over first, then find a place to pull to. Would work either way, no?

I do a /pet follow right after I sent the /pet attack.
Before it gets to the mob.
So that when I /pet hold the pet back, it is already running.
No.. it still attacks.. but your expectation and question is precisely why I am explaining this.
Normal Routine (assuming far away, but no See Invisible stuff):
Invis.. run to mob
/PET GUARD near mob
run back
(maybe FD.. depends)
/PET ATTACK
once the pet moves /PET FOLLOW
once ToTH shows pet has aggro /PET HOLD

before i had pet hold i set up the following on two lines of one macro:
/pet back off
/pet follow me
not sure if it was necessary, but i did it to be sure the pet was always in follow mode when needed

Yep, I'd say that changes things ; )
Thanks, I didn't think about that--but it explains why I couldn't get it to work!

I've not made extensive use of pet pulling, but as pertains to guard vs. follow, there's a notable difference.
A pet returning to you runs.
A pet returning to a guard spot walks.
When you're pulling something that can potentially squash your pet, it's much better to have him following you than returning to a guard spot. (You can put him on guard when he's coming back, if you like.)
