Elaborate Pet

Okay, So I'm racking up AAs killing spiders in Icefall the other day and my kids distracted me long enough that I was surprised by the wandering Bear... First time I've died in prolly two months. I've had the same pet that entire time and he was decked out with a full set of Prime Plate, weps, belt and muzzle.

Well, looked in the Bazaar to get JaBoner some new clothes and, of course, there are no Summoned Armor sets up.

So....

I put the following onto JaBoner:



The usual:

• Lucid Belt (5pp)
• Muzzle of Mowcha (5pp)
• Fireblade (5pp)
• Staff of the North Wind (5pp)

But this time, I also dressed him up in:

• Elaborate Defiant Leather Tunic (on Trader)
• Elaborate Defiant Chain Leggings (1800pp)
• Elaborate Defiant Chain Coif (100pp)
• Elaborate Defiant Leather Gloves (350pp)
• Elaborate Defiant Chain Boots (on Trader)
• Elaborate Defiant Silk Wristband (100pp)
• Elaborate Defiant Plate Wristguard (100pp)
• Elaborate Defiant Leather Sleeves (245pp)

I did up a dummy Magelo for Jaboner I chose an SK for the base profile only because I wanted to be able to view the additional mana. Question is: Did JaBoner actually equip all of the stuff or only those items for a Warrior (level 72 pet is warrior, right? )? Did all of the non-Warrior stuff just go **poof**?

If he actually equipped the stuff, I'd say that's a pretty tough pet for only 2,715pp. I easily make that back from the trash I sell in one to two trips to the merchant.

He is wearing everything but the silk bracer, because they only have one wrist slot - so defaulted to the wrist item with the highest AC. Additional single-slot items are ear & finger.

So yeah, you got a pretty solid pet right now.

I should point out that you may wanna get a prime belt when one comes available he'll replace the lucid belt with it. It's a fair bit of an upgrade. =D

Yeah, I know the Prime is a better belt, but Lucid was the only thing available in Bazaar while I was shopping for the Elaborate stuff.

Wasn't aware of the single slots. Nice info. I didn't get any jewelry because I wasn't sure if the Elaborate was gonna stick, let alone any jewel stuff.

I'll look around for an Elaborate Bow, but they were all too expensive (not worth the plat) compared to the Intricate.

Well we have a warrior and rogue type pet. Wouldn't that limit them to those armor slots? (plate & chain).

Wish they would implement Pet inventry screen you could use to equip the pet.

As far as I know the answer is No; they cannot. I simply equip'd JaBoner with one as the Range Slot stat item.

BTW, picked up the Elaborate Defiant Recurve Bow in the Bazaar this morning for 32pp. That gives JaBoner Improved Dodge II and better HP/Mana/Stats.

Wish they would implement Pet inventry screen you could use to equip the pet.

I actually made this recommendation to Magelo on their forums. Probably won't go anywhere, but...

That doesn't matter to pets they'll wear anything. Just look at the mage summoned armor its None / None.

yes yes you are right Draz, i wasnt even thinking about the range slot until my ever so smart hubby said the exact same thing right after i read aloud my post. i frequently equip drop junk on my pet, my last round of gear included...a fabled shissar scale BP of all things, couldn't /baz sell to save my life, so i put it on him. i think right now he has a gem inlaid long sword and the sword that procs itching madness LOL. elaborate defiant and cultural are my faves to put him in, most of the time on my server it seems to be cheaper than a mage summoning stuff.

On Quellious, it's just plain more available. Might be due to my time-zone difference (playing at GMT +9 for Japan), but I have a hard time finding good mage toys when I'm running around the Bazaar. Most of the time, Summoned toyes run anywhere from 15-25pp each on Quellious; sometimes cheaper, sometimes 150pp each?!?!?!? So, 100pp or less for most of the items is pretty well worth it. Especially if I can keep pet alive for long periods, LOL!

I'm hard pressed to find a decent shield that can replace the Elaborate Defiant Recurve Bow for less than 50pp...

I also usually look to gear my pet with elaborate defiant whenever I can find it cheap, if I plan to do the usual, instead of going off and trying new things (this sometimes leads to dying and lost pet gear, so I don't gear my pets when doing this).

Also, I often equip my pet with whatever elaborate defiant weapons I can find in baz with the highest strength. They're often everywhere, and dirt cheap, and hunting down decent mage pet weapons can be a royal pain. The EDefiant weapons generally have great stats anyways.
I do, generally, look for muzzle of mowcha and prime belt, tho, if I can find them.

Also of note are various SoF items from the tier 1 zones, often found for pocket change in bazaar. Felmight Gorget, Felmight Fetish, and Stonewall Pauldrons usually make their way to my pet for less than 1k each, often 500p or less. I'm also fond of the ever-so-cheap and nice Tainted Cloak of Treachery.

For the low-level necro, at this point, your best bet for a good, cheap 2h weapon would also be the Defiant weapons.
Now, I don't know if this was strictly graphical, but I noticed something when gearing my pets at low levels... I could hand them a shield, then hand them a 2h weapon, and they would hold BOTH. This led me to stock up on cheap 2h weapons and those trash shields from Arcstone with the haste on them. Perhaps someone would want to parse this and see if the shield and weapon both work for the pet. Best bet I can think is to parse a pet with a 2h weapon, then summon another, hand it a haste shield and then a weapon, and see if it's dps improves... suggesting that it does benefit from both the weapon and the shield.

Yes at lower lvls pets will equip 2handers as 1handers...theres a point where they can dual wield 2handers...but that ends quick...
