Thank you very much Persephonae for this fantastic guide Myself and 3 others decided to create new characters on Maelin Starpyre so that we could relive the days of old and level up without anything cept out wits. I chose a necro just because it's a class that as I learned more about through the years I've really wanted to try. Your guide has proved most helpfull I'm still just a youngen at lvl 8 but I've had enough pp for all my spells and have aquired most of my newb armor along with the quested face item! It's also been ALOT of fun doing it thus far hehe It's a bit tough to find alot of time to jump from The tribunal to Maelin to play the necro cause I'm a GL there and am usually kind of busy. The guide has helped make it so when I do get the time I have some direction and goals

Im struggling with the boat. I tried


Darkness, EBolt, pet in, fear, BoD, reapply fear as needed seemed to work the best, I was now clearing the Stormwave and the dock and still a short time to med before repops.

Only that isnt working so great for me, Im 52, have all my spells bar scent of terris, but, Im finding I cant keep this up, its burning through like 45% of my mana per mob, and Im not regaining it quick enough to keep the boat cleared, I have lich on constantly and sit at all opportunities, but often I cant get the darkness, bolt and fear on before the mobs mash me a bit too.

What I do Bug, is park the pet on the dock, near the street (but out of aggro range) and use that as a point to run back to... pull a mob off the boat with darkness, run to the top of the ramp, cast ebolt, run down ramp and towards the pet as I send him in, toss on the level 4 fear, toss on BoD once it was feared and sit and med, reapplying fear as needed.

You'll get hit some of the time (especially on a darkness resist) but BoD and an occasional lifetap maintained my HPs pretty well. I would suggest that you have V on.. or 9 for the extra 9 mana regen if you're having issues with it, but because of the much shorter duration on 9, if I'm looking to donate for a buff, I much prefer V.

Thanks for that, Im finding the lvls 46-55 the hardest once I hit 55 I know I'll be able to group in valor, until then, things like dranik scar which have been blue for a while still seem harsh.

My equip sucks, but then, that comes from not having access to items to hand down to me. Although I have a couple.

Im really looking forward to how you get on.. Its nice to read a thing that doesnt start with

"twink yourself" ... or "go to the bazaar and buy x with your millions of hoarded plats!"

you can go a long way on just the newb armor stuff, I got to 46 with 8k in the bank on a brand new server doing that, but now Im 53, and climbing slowly.. being an ikky is proving frustrating thoguh

I did the Stormwave at 50 and at 51 I moved to Lady D. I went right up to the boat and pulled with darkness, Invoke fear and add ebolt. Mobs on dock won't usually aggro on you unless you stand right next to them. I found that if I gave my pet mage toys and didn't buff him with haste then the mob would yo yo back to me. If I hasted pet, the pet would get too much aggro and mob would stay on him after fear ran off. Not alot of resists here and with mana skin you should be able to absorb any damage you might get before spell wears off. Named on dock that spawns can drop the worn golden tooth which is 21% haste neck item. Can sell it for a couple k plat or use it for tribute. Most mobs on boat will track towards the dock after fear. One next to mast will path towards the upper boat section but most of the time will yo yo back to you before getting adds. Mana is usually ok but my health bar usually hovers around 50 percent. I usually use BoD every 2 or 3 mobs.
