  • Coming back after 6 years...

Greetings, I am coming back to Everquest after having been gone for 6 years. I have had to run through tutorial quests just to remember basics of game lol!!

However... I have a 70 necro(now down to 69!) and I am trying to find an area that I can level in that wont stomp me down another level as I try to level. I have all my spells, but my gear maybe outdated. I can barely take down a lite blue mob and its frustrating. Im in the steppes at the moment.

Any good links to gear/spell rotation/etc... I should be using? I could really use some inspiration here. I played WoW for a little while, but I always missed EQ.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Go to the Bazaar and find your appropriate level "Defiant" gear. That should help shore up some of your issues. Will post more later, at work at the moment.

I noticed a sticky about returning to play... guess I will have a lot of reading to catch up. Thanks for the suggestion about Defiant gear... will look that up too!

Plane of Fire Tables was a decent spot even at 70, and no longer requires flagging. Here is a thread that gives a few other suggestions http://www.necrotalk.com/showthread.php?t=8940

Also are you kiting (no merc required = better xp, and when you shake the rust off can kite multiples)? Because if you are trying to pet tank, you will be disappointed for a while yet. Our pets are weak until you get in the 80 range and get a good Pet focus item. And even then, it might be very iffy if you are the sole healer, and don't have a cleric merc to help keep pet up.

Im trying to kite.... doesnt always work well yet. I noticed the weakness of my pet (Lost Soul) too.

So I should get a healer merc?

Good news is, you don't need great gear to get good exp at your level. If you can't afford bazaar upgrades, just kill the stuff you can and upgrade later. Will have to think about areas to hunt at that level, been a while.. Definitely start by looking at the hotzones, but some of those are not necro friendly. The link Vivamort gave has some good places, check some of those out till you find something you like

Necro friendly = non summoning mobs that we can snare.

They're right you really dont need much for gear to be decent dps. Look for arms for Fire Focus, Helm for Magic Focus and Wrists for Poison/Disease. Get a good pet focus when you can. A detrimental spell extension item (think its an earring) that will help to give you an extra tick or two of your dots.

Oh...get your epic 2.0 ASAP!!!! I just looked at your magelo but didn't dig into it at all. There are a lot of people that will help you out on the server so /ooc ask for help with fights when you get to them. You do the leg work and don't make people wait, you'll have it in no time. I just helped a guy get his orb from Anguish and kill his last mob for his 2.0. As a community people most times like to help when they're available.

                Couple questions:
                1. What kind of pet focus should I be looking to get? how do i use it..(yar its been a long while...)
                2. Where do I go to start on my epic 2.0... and what is the epic 2.0?

Its been six years... forgotten a lot. I was able to finally get a full set of defiant as I made 70 again... Had to play around with spell rotation and steppes was some what safe to kite so... The defiant gear really brought my stats up.. nice I am going to read up on augs too... I remember that we can also augment our gear(?) not sure what i need to get there.

Really appreciate all the help. Starting to remember why I liked the game so much...

as soon as i hit about mid-70 I will turn AA on and ramp up on AAs. Only have 69.

You can get a pet focus item on one of the PoK gear vendors. An earring, I think.

I know that higher levels the pet Focus is on earrings (not all) and all you do is equip it when you create a pet or leave it in when you have the "swarm pets" spells. I'm not sure about lvl 70. It needs to be on your toon so the focus effects are realized.

Since you don't have your epic 1.0 I would just jump right into the 1.5 prequest. I'm not sure where the post is on how to do it though but maybe others can link it for you. All necro's still use their epics to boost their dps at the loss of stats.

XP at 70 i would recommend The Buried Sea, Snakes in the watchacallit - Hothouse?, should be a writeup somewhere around here search for snakes and herbs. Requires at best binding there and finding your way there so load up the maps from mapfiend.net.

I'm also recently back having a ball again with EQ. Take a look at this http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=71042 earring for a nice pet focus. You run a couple of daily tasks for currency to buy it from a vendor. It takes about 7-8 days if I recall to get enough to buy it.

                        Epic quest links.

Dont forget to utilize tribute, that should help where your gear lacks, as well as other things that are plus's.

Welcome back and thanks for the information. The earring can be had through a series of faction quest to get special currency? Is this right?
