  • So you made a new Heroic Necro..

So just to familiarize myself with what a brand new heroic character necro has to work with I made one and took a few screen shots to show you what I think would be the way to go, with your newly minted 85th level necro.

    Spell Line up:
These show your 10 best by DPS dots and a tap and poison nuke that 25% of the time make your dots do more damage. If you have a druid that can make mobs plants, or are fighting plants you might want to stick your corruption line in there. Also if you are kiting, you may want to go for a total damage per cast line up vs a DPS line up, Tryal has some video links on the site here that show his method of kiting and he uses a damage per cast line up to speed up his kiting.

    Your Feign Death buttons:

Death Peace, sit/stand button, Cloak of Shadows
So I like to keep these in my first hotbar so I can press 1 for FD and then when I wasn't to get up press 2 and 3 in quick succession so I can stand up invis. This will keep mobs that do not see invis from agroing you even if they are standing right on top of you (assuming you have cleared agro that is, you won't regain it).

    Damage boosting buttons:

You are missing some key things when you are all fresh and new (CoA Robe, AAs to buy Glyphs, Epic, etc,) But these are things you have that will add damage you can use them all together. so lead with silent casting and click one or more of the rest between spell casts to add some extra damage.

    Use a lot buttons:

You will use encroaching darkness a lot or should in any case, snared mobs are easier to handle, Whisper wind is good for travel, good for getting distance between you and a mob to snare it, it is good to use kiting in narrow places, for getting past see invis mobs, use it a lot. Reluctant Benevolence is just a nice thing to have on.. you should click it anytime it us available.

    Transport buttons:

You can add Levant, Brick of Knowledge, The Binden Concerrentia, Thurg potions, Anchors, etc. here too, as you aquire them, to keep your travel options out in the open.

Defensive Buttons that don't allow mob to go into regen mode.

Say you are fighting a named and it has eaten through you party killed all the mercs and is about to eat your last Army of the Dead pet and will be stomping you next, but it is almost dead. Get those dots loaded, hit your damage boosting buttons and use these to keep yourself from harm while your dots tick away the mobs hit points

    Mana Buttons

These are the 3 buttons that can replenish your mana or in the case of blood magic, allow you to use your hps instead of your mana.

    Pet Buttons

Use Fortify pet and companians blessing when you want your pet to tank a named, replenish is a quick casting, slow refresh heal.. suspend so you can unsuspend the second pet you have suspended when first one goes down, and companion relocation when you have someone else tanking and want to send your pet to the back of the mob.

Anyway those are the AAs and spells I think you should have at the ready as a newly minted 85th level necro.

If you intend to actually play a necromancer some of the things you should do sooner rather than later is get epic 2.5, Get OoW Tier 2 robe (aka CoA robe), UF robe for its click until it is useless, then VoA and then RoF robe.. forget the CotF robe for its click, you can still wear it though.

There are suggested paths for AAs, and they are pretty darn good, on this site already so I won't duplicate that info here.

When you start to get swarm pet spells and quick dots, your line ups will differ when you are kiting, rootrotting, or raiding to when you are grouping. But hopefully you have a grasp of the class by then and you now know necrotalk and can find help if you need it here.

Thank you for this. As a returning Necro this was just what I was looking for. I also took the upgrade to 85. I also have a Ranger and a Cleric, but my Necro is by far the most fun to play. Complicated, but fun.

          Hmmm

I look up Tryal and it says the member can't be found. Any advice on a solo aggro kite lineup for a returning noob? As an aside, the first thing I did upon returning was camp and loot a wand of imperceptibility, LOL. Should I, or can I, get a pair of Journyman Boots?

Just a heads-up for those planning to have their new heroic chars on normal AND Test Server.

YOU CAN NOT /testcopy heroic characters to the Test-Server :-(.

Stupid me didnt see the message - I had an empty free account from before 2013 lying around, and made another just like now (1 per household limit). Two heroics stuck on bronze accounts...a pity.

You can delete them and remake them, until whenever the promotion ends. So can remake them on test if that is where you want them.

Is that really the best Spells and order? I redid mine starting with the lvl 84 snare/dot then the 2min splart then the 1:42min fire spells the longer then 54 disease, then the 54s poisions, then the lvl 85 30s fire and mortal coil. Ending with the life tap. Is Splart worth it to start right after snare?

Ive never palyed a necro before but this lets me constantly kite atleast two mobs in the HoT courtyard. I do have to reapply two dots to kill the target. Is there a better way to kill stuff?

Also I have no idea how to take down names, do I use a healer merc and have my pet tank? How do you unsuspend a pet? Is it worth buying wep weapons?

As a DPS line up, it is. If you are grouping, this will provide the best chance to contribute in the damage area. Until you get the pet swarm spells and quick dots.

You seem to be doing a Damage per cast line up (not a DPS line up) Which is fine for kiting. It is what Tryal does in his videos elsewhere on this site. You put just the right amount of dots to kill the mob on, and then just keep it kited while you add more to the kite while it dies. I don't think splart is a worth while spell, it does too little damage for my taste, and outlasts many mobs. Some people use the snare dot to kite since it has a longer duration (and I think may have a tiny bit more of a snare effect) than the damageless AA snare. but being able to cast the AA between spell casts is too nice for me to pass up.

Find Tryal's kiting posts, he talks about finding the exact dots for the situation so you are not overdotting and killimg in the most efficient way possible, I don't think he reapplies dots, because he knows the dots he cast will do sufficient damage to kill the mob.

Basically you would pet tank mobs with a cleric merc. Use fortify companion on pet and companion blessing right before engage to give pet the longest life span. But you will most likely want to use all your AA swarm pets to keep the named busy while you stack dots (use the DPS line up) and use your damage modifying AAs while under silent casting

To unsuspend a pet you make a hotkey of suspend pet AA and click it to unsuspend a suspended pet.

Any AC on your pet makes them tank a lot better. AC seems to have a much more significant effect on NPC like pets. So if the weapons have ac yes they definitely help, the procs are just extra damage (the damage/delay ratios are irrelevant).

Thank you once again for this thread,

My question is. After I snare and root my to be XP kill, I should just constantly cycle through the dots from top to bottom?

                          Thank you in advance.

I watched tyrals video, for me it wasn't very informative. He was like level 95 I have access to none of the spells he is casting. He didnt really go through any spefics just talked off topic a lot. Everything he was doing is what i was already trying to do with common sense. Im just not sure I have the spells to be able to dot a mob fully without having to go back to it.

Right now im putting 9 Dots plus refreshing atleast 1 usually 2 in HoT courtyard, so i can really only ever kite two mobs because of the time it takes to cast a rotation.

I am also trying to find a better place to kite besides HoT courtyard. I saw people suggestion the NW corner in feerott gorilla camp. But that seems densly forested with gorillas respawning ontop of me all the time. Any better places? I dont really want to root rot just seems like i can use my time more efficiently kiting.
